Default H&R Sport Springs vs. Stock

I recently bought a 2020 C4S with H&R Sport springs installed. The previous owner kept the stock springs and they came with the car. I love the stance/look the springs provide and don't think the ride quality is poor, however I live in Houston and the roads are not the best... Over some bumps and especially pavement lips and small "drop offs" you can hear the suspension knock a bit at low speed.

From those who have installed the H&R Sport springs, how much "worse" is the ride quality compared to stock? Subjective I know, but I am trying to decide if I should swap the stock springs back on as I bought this car as a GT/semi-daily driver and don't plan to track it, etc. so comfort is important.

Essentially, if I'm told that the ride on stock springs is significantly smoother with no suspension knock over serious bumps thats what I will switch to. If the occasional knock is common and the ride quality isn't significantly effected by the H&R springs I will leave them.

Thanks in advance

There is no suspension knock. Porsches don’t knock.

The springs may not have been installed correctly as there should be no noise or knock. The dampers (shocks) are designed for stock springs, when someone installs lowered springs, they should really just go with a matched set of coilovers, otherwise your dampening is incorrect. Replacing springs without doing new struts matched to them is not ideal.

Agree. Even if properly installed, when there is a bad mismatch, the compression/rebound damping doesn’t really mesh with the spring rate and the suspension can pack down and clunk over square bumps and rough roads or pogo over undulations in the road.

Note as well, if you put the stock springs back on the car (and I personally would) you will need to have a 4 wheel alignment as the camber and toe changes with spring height.

Like H&R knows Porsches better than thousands of Porsche engineers do. Why would you even think about aftermarket springs on this car?

To be fair, it’s about aesthetics. The calculation that HR make is lowering on factory dampers while minimizing impacts on performance. Typically, performance suffers.

Coil overs are a different story and it’s possible to lower the car and preserve performance. They are also about 10x more expensive. No short cuts with this stuff.

For the record, I didn't put them on, nor would I have. I noticed they had been installed during the purchase process and since the stock springs were included I figured I could swap them back if I didn't like them. Now that I've driven it a bit and have this feedback I will switch back to stock springs ASAP. Will go the coil over route if I want to lower in the future

This is the feedback I was looking for so thank you. How many miles do you have on the springs and how are the dampers doing?

The point is that I don’t think anyone claims HR knows better than Porsche.

Bilstein EVO looks like the way to go. Plug and play with PASM. It’s on back order for a few months. KWv4 is an option but expensive at $7k and 4 ways are overkill for a street car, IMO. Also I’m not sure how they integrate with PASM.

Would installing aftermarket springs void the drive train warranty? Or any other warranty.

If so, that just further confirms I'd never do something like that.
