After the rather spectacular demise of a second engine in a race car I had (The rules required the OEM cast iron crankshaft) my friends/pit crew “helpfully” used a Dymo Label Maker and placed the word “BANG” at 7,200 RPM on the Tachometer face. I have to admit, this high tech “Gear Shift Indicator” worked rather well. LOL

Well I tried it this morning and it was definitely underwhelming to say the least. It doesn't really start going until somewhere above 5K rpms (hard to know exactly since I couldn't watch that closely, guess I should have videoed it). Using my ears and a quick glance at the analog dial is MORE than enough for me. But it was fun trying it out.

OK. I tried again today, and got over 6k rpm. Still no bars or colors on the gear shift assist. I even went into the PCM and deleted it, and then reinstated it. No success. So, I guess this will be on the list for my 10K service when it comes up next year.

Where in the PCM do you delete & add it?

In PCM, choose Settings from menu. Then: Displays>Display Instrument Cluster>Display Scope. From there, you can select or deselect any of the displays to the right of the tach.

Haven't seen it show up on its own, nor have I seen any options I could select for it.
Tell ya what, I'll select "Manual Mode" tomorrow and see if that does anything. I haven't actually used "Manual Mode" yet, although I use the Paddles fairly frequently. I'll see if "Manual Mode" brings anything up on the dash. Might be kind of fun if it does.
Edit: Couldn't wait. FWIW it is not available with PDK Transmissions. I probably could have saved myself some time. The "Shift Assist" function in the Owners Manual is a subsection of the Manual Transmission section.

Sure enough. A little white triangle. Very clearly using an algorithm tailored to maximize the fuel economy and emissions as well. Counterintuitively, if one has selected "Manual Mode", keeping this upshift light off, should be the goal, at the very minimum. LOL

Actually, you go into the PCM. You can check the screens you want to have available to you when you scroll through the selections using the wheel on the right steering stem. This is a higher level, but similar to, how you make the selections for the "custom" display screen.

It seems like there are a lot of mixed opinions on this, but to be perfectly honest this is the screen that I have up 100% of the time when driving the 991.1. I enjoy seeing the cars "opinion" on when I need to shift vs when I would normally do it myself, and I think it is a fun "race car" feature.
I did track the 991 a few times, and came in very handy for those days as well when you have a lot of other stuff you are thinking about all at the same time... the flashing yellow and red made for a good reminder.
My 992 is PDK and does not offer any such feature (obviously)... but the 992 does have launch control and sport response button, so I guess that makes up for it
