So let's see what the actual percentage is within the Rennlist owners for custom orders versus pre-configured:

This is my first (owned three so far) Porsche custom order. All have been CPO prior to this one.

We have always done custom as dealers seem to include a lot of options that are unnecessary and miss some we must have. It also, in normal times, allows for factory delivery which is extraordinary especially if you can add at least a week for touring.

I started with a custom order and put down a deposit, but then, gave up that allocation due to a crazy travel schedule. When I my schedule settled down, I snagged an incoming dealer ordered car that closely matched my original custom build. I was lucky because that dealer-ordered car came in before the car that was built with my old allocation. Win-win!

Given the options and customizations available on a 911, I highly recommend a custom build just for the experience and satisfaction.

I custom ordered an already noticed 1-2 items I would have changed. And I got the car Friday and have driven it twice. Neither is a major deal. And one I thought I road tested to know and am still unsure if I made the right call.

For the record my 3 911's have been:
  1. demo
  2. new off the floor
  3. new custom order
seems like a pretty common evolution.

I think anyone that spends time on a message bickering over whether PPF is necessary on a car, will most likely (if not certainly) custom-ordered their 911.

Rennlisters are probably not typical Porsche buyers. I would guess that Rennlisters are much more focused on the pros and cons of various options than the average buyer who just wants a Porsche, and buys one off the lot if the color is right. At present, given the dearth of 992's on lots, virtually all current purchases are custom, but when the supply normalizes and 992's are readily available, I'm guessing that the overall rate of custom orders will be less than 50 percent. One has to be a dedicated Porschephile to wait six or seven months to get a car, and I think a lot of people rationalize that an immediately available car within their budget parameters is too tempting to pass up.

My three 911’s have been:

1. Demo
2. New off the lot
3. New off the lot

I thought about custom ordering my 992, but I have no self control and my builds were just too expensive. So I found one on the lot in my color preference and my minimum must have options and bought it. Saved me 35K off my dream config, and I am perfectly happy with it. These 911’s are my daily drivers, so maybe one day when they aren’t, I will order one and spend the extra cash.

There's no way a dealer would order a lot car configured to our needs/likes...had no choice but to order to get what we wanted.

Very hard to find one with the right specs and right colour combos.

Ordered my 992S in late April 2019, without ever stepping foot into the dealership. Texts, emails, and cc deposit. Delivered late September.
