Default Soft Limiter is Lame

This is one thing that I wish that Porsche didn't put on these cars. I dont believe that they have always had this, and I dont believe that they have it on the GT models. The laxck of ability to rev the engine beyond 3500 RPM at a stand still must be either an emissions thing or a noise ordinance thing. There is no way that they do it to protect the engine. Every other car that I have driven allows you to rev the engine higher. I don't need to redline it, just want to get a little noise out of it from time to time for kicks.

Every new car does this. Neutral rev limiters are very much a thing.
Revving an engine without load isn't the best thing that you can do for it either.

That being said, if you want to make some noise, you can activate Launch Control and then, not launch the car by just letting off of the gas. Not my cup of tea, but if you have the need, that's the way to do it.

Unless you have an aftermarket exhaust or some mods done it will sound like crap regardless of how high you "rev" your engine. Quite honestly most people in this world laugh at guys who do this, it is really pointless and very ricer. Now, a good hard launch or drive away with a healthy sounding motor under load is a different story.

My only complaint about the manual cars. Soft limiter and no launch control function with Sport Chrono. Porsche screwed up here. They could have easily programmed a launch control into manual cars allowing this for the few times when we want more than 3500rpm for launches. They have it in the GT4/Spyder models.

I don't know, my wife was trying to convince me to settle for a GT4 until a guy rolled up to the dealer with his 991 GT3 and was talking with us about how much fun they were and when he was leaving he stopped and revved the **** out of it in the lot before ripping *** down the road.

She said "okay I get it now."

It was highly beneficial to my cause.

Revving it up would be nice. I know it's not good for the car, but pretty much nothing I do with my 911 is good for it, so I'd like to have the option

I remember when we would side step clutches to get off the line even in 'standard' street cars. It was brutal but effective. I'm not talking drag cars here, I realise that's a whole different conversation. But I'm wondering if Porsche simply say 3500rpm is about as much as they are prepared to handle on non-GT cars to minimise their warranty risk.

If you have PDK, I believe you pull both paddles when you're in drive which will put the car in neutral and there is no limiter. I have not tried this myself however but pretty sure I saw a reviewer on YouTube do this.

This is my understanding of it with PDK and am sure it is the case with the C8's DCT.

This. Porsche calls it Paddle Neutral.
