Default How much will I miss Chrono?

Am moving to Portugal and just bought a 2021 911 CS Cabriolet - don't pick it up until the end of the month (still in UK).

The spec is great except it doesn't have Sports Chrono, unfortunately Portugal has virtually zero Porsche stock and this was the one and only (992) CS Cab available anywhere in the country. Just so lucky it was in my favourite GT Silver.

My question is how much will I really miss having the Sports Chrono button? Had a 718 GTS previously and never used launch control and almost never got the chance to use Sports + (lived in London).

Anyway here's a pic of Steffi (well she's German, a goddess and loved watching Graff play :-) )

I just took delivery of my C2 and I ordered it without Sport Chrono. I have never had Sport Chrono so I suppose I cannot miss what I have never had. In many ways if you never really used it when you were in London I suppose you will not really miss it either. I am sure a lot of other people here will disagree with my opinion. I am sure you will love the car even though it doesn't have Chrono. Enjoy your new car.

For what it's worth I deliberately ordered my C2S without Sport Chrono package. My thinking was as follows: I live in a big city, I won't be tracking the car, and I usually keep my cars for a very long time (basically I don't sell my cars) and thus like to avoid any options which don't bring me any noticeable (subjective) difference but might still give me maintenance headache. I would have added the Sport Chrono package if it weren't for the dynamic gearbox mounts. I hear these are expensive to replace.

*Edit: Car is due for delivery in mid-August so I cannot provide any practical feedback now.

Hey @lemonorlime

Funny you should mention the dynamic gearbox mounts as I had a 718 GTS previously (with the sports chrono as standard ofc) and the dealer told me that they would make gearchanges almost imperceptible - which they were.
But you know I didn't really like that personally, I want to feel and hear the gears changing but I guess modern gearboxes are just too good :-)

I would miss not having the mode **** on the steering wheel.

This, and use of the over boost button for passing maneuvers on a tight 2 lane.

Hey @Kurac Does the C2S really lack the power to overtake on a tight 2 lane? Or is just more fun to do it with the engine howling?

Honestly, it also stopped me buying the car (not having Chrono) but then I realised you still got the Sports and Wet settings - bit of a Porsche noob me!

Oh there's no debating there, definitely they must minimize shift "kick". But also PDCC, RAS, SPASM each brings its own small advantage. But to someone like me for whom the 992 is a huge leap compared to my previous cars (mostly luxury sedans or proper off road cars), they don't really matter, especially considering their out-of-warranty repair costs.

They might make more sense to someone who owned several Porsches, as they'll be more aware of these tiny improvements in terms of handling/performance.

I've got 19k miles on my C4S and I use the Sport Chrono package on every drive. At a minimum, the rotary mode selection **** gets a twist. Sport Plus sees a lot of action. On long highway journeys, I've also learned to appreciate the super pursuit mode, overboost, or whatever you want call "the button". Sport Chrono is the only option that I consider a "must have" for a 911 build, because a 911 without it is a lesser 911.

That being said, these cars are tough to come by right now. In this environment, if you want a 992 and the only 992 available lacks Sport Chrono, it wouldn't prevent me from pulling the trigger. People want these cars so badly that I am not even sure if the absence of Sport Chrono affects resale in this environment. If you want the car, go for it.

Porsche took all the buttons away and gave us back a ****, for a price. Marketing genius.

hey @detansinn Basically have no option really - as it is the sole C2SC in the whole of Portugal. Found a company a few months back that specialised in importing cars from Germany to Portugal (as they are sooo much cheaper there) but in the space of a few weeks it went from lots of cars to choose from to virtually none. I can tell you from experience that Porsche Germany is showing loads of C2SC's on their website - every one that I would have is sold or reserved.

I think over the next few months we're all gonna be posting how terrified we'll be of getting our 911's stolen or stacked - as we'll get the insurance money in our bank accounts with nothing to buy!

Yeah, passing other cars in this thing is NOT a problem.

I think that is an excuse for the Sport Response button, but we all know that that’s not the real reason it exists. The real reason is because we enjoy going fast for the heck of it

The **** for me serves the purpose of switching between Sport and Sport+ mode, the only two modes I ever drive in.

I rarely push the button. You really need a good, empty straightaway for that
