The current x431 does NOT work on 2021 992s and no support is expected prior to Q3 at the earliest.

Furthermore from my contacts in China, what items it will do will be found on the top analyzers (Torque and Turbo) rather than on the x431 Mini or other when it does show up. For the record, the current Porsche versions work great on the wife's 2020 Macan S but although it finds and recognizes the 2021 992, it's not able to do what I wanted. I can ID stuff and change values until I ask it to write and that's when it fails.

What I haven't done is fooling the unit. In other words not doing the auto detect but inputting manually the type of car - i.e. 991 and see if it can do some of the stuff I want to do by believing it's a 991.

Cool idea. Would be great if you can mess around with and just maybe get it to reset the oil and maintenance lights, that's all I'd ever need, tks!

The Autel MS906 does everything you are looking for. It is rather pricey, if that is a concern. They offer less expensive models.

Good to know, but way too much $$$$ just so I can change my own oil, lol.

Yep, alas this is summer and, though the solstice and 22 hours of daylight is nigh, I've got stuff piled so high that the 992 and analyzer is way down the list after:
Major maintenance for Olga, rebuild the dog houses, repair my driveway, fishing, did I mention fishing? If I haven't, fishing (halibut - not doing salmon this year as I'm trading the latter for the former) and the rest of the honeydo's I keep trying to forget.

But if someone does have some time, I think fooling the analyzer to think it's a previous generation car could work. Easy enough to find out anyway. Please post if you do try and if I can get out from under this list I'll give it a shot.

PS My list is much more extensive than oil changes and SRI resets

Finally got around to trying out to fool the scanner into thinking it was a 991 and be able to reset oil service, access bcm etc. Alas as previously, everything works until I try and WRITE to the ECU and then it fails. I've reached out to the manufacturer in China as to whether the 992 would be accessible in the near future and will let you know if I get anything. It does seem like one may have to go to PIWIS if you need it soon, but what model...?

Just got word back from the Launch folks. The current versions (despite two software upgrades) do not support the 992 and they've got no idea when they will be supported. Grim news alas...

Almost any $15 Scan Tool will read and clear OBD-II codes on my 992, but unfortunately, none of the systems on the market (at any price) have true bi-directional capabilities at this point, other than clearing OBD-II codes.

FWIW, I bought this -
Amazon Amazon
- a few days ago to use on my 991.2. In the vehicle selection section, 992 was there.

If you read carefully it's compatible for 1996 to 2019 vehicles.

If 992 is mentioned it contradicts their top statement.

If you have a 992, please test for us BIDIRECTIONALLY. TIA (sorry didn't notice you have a 991.2 and reason it no doubt works)

Exactly!!! I bought this and despite the advertising it was NFG on my 2021 C2S. Amazon took it back no questions asked. Lucky for me.

It seems for now PIWIS is the only one. A course in German is of course "recommended"

Have a 2021 C4S with lightweight buckets, changed the seat covers an noticed on the passenger seat base there's an airbag pad/plug under the cover (wasn't one on my 991 with same seats). I disconnected and replaced new covers to find I now have a passenger airbag fault now.

This I'm sure just needs a reset as it's been unplugged, will one of the standard OBD tools allow me to reset this? Reading above will I need a 992 specific ?

Thanks Mark

So far I've tried several different tacks to get my Launch x431 Pro Mini to interact with my autistic 2021 992C4S. I've gone so far as to try and fool the analyzer by self identifying the car as a 991 in the hopes it may find some way of WRITING anything to it but no luck. Following various exchanges with the Chinese developers (and I will readily admit my Cantonese is weak ) they don't at the moment have ANY version of their tools that support the 992. As to an upcoming release date I was told initially Q3, now it's "we don't have that information").

To answer your question, and I don't know what your definition of "standard ODB tool means, my guess would be "YES" you need a specific 992 analyzer (PIWIS 3 comes to mind as one of the few) that is able to WRITE to update corresponding register. If you have another one that you're able to make work please post for the rest of the community please.

siberian

PS A last thought is to leave it alone and perhaps its "cycle" related. Meaning after so many engine start/stops with no further error it may clear itself. May be worth a try though long term you might want to start looking for an appropriate analyzer that fits your need and budget
