It's the trade-off for removing the lightweight and quiet glass option on most of the 2022's. Now if Porsche would replace the piano black on the center console, THAT would be a distinction that would be difficult, if not impossible to ignore.
PS - If the 992.2 removes piano black from the center console, that might be the only reason I need to seek a trade in the future.
That’s the reason Porsche adds a few questionable aesthetics. The rest of the cars greatness easily overshadows the little things… but over time… those little things eat away at you until you just can’t take it anymore.
Hahaha. Now they REALLY look like like plastic. I’d wager they’ll scratch just as easily as piano black, too.
All buttons might as well be made of leather (a la Exclusive Option if you prefer), so perhaps then the quality and finishing would satisfy us enthusiasts.
All said and done, the matte finishing doesn't look too bad at all! However, would made perfect sense if the piano black parts in the center console were matched to them. .
I actually prefer the gloss over matte finish. Am I really the only one?
Some people have oily hands and matte materials pick this stuff up like crazy. When it shows, it's gross. Whereas the imperfections that show on gloss are just unsightly; it hides oils well in high-touch areas and can otherwise be polished quickly with a microfibre.
Interior ceramic coatings or even vinyls can be used to reduce scratches on the surfaces but these parts are cheap enough that I would just plan to replace these bits every few years if scratches or dings were to develop. My Tesla had a ton of high gloss surfaces and I never once found it looking anything less than new.
If they changed the piano trim to matte on the center console - they’d have to ditch the buttons & digital screen readout for temp above it. The piano finish is just there to blend it in as well as match the screens (PCM & Dials)
