FWIW I realized my physical manual is different, it doesn't mention that third variation.

1) If you do not have comfort access, you unlock the door with the key, using the buttons. The handle pops out and you pull it to open the door.

2) If you have comfort acess, you can program it to:
  • Either have handle pop out by just touching the recess in the handle (door unlocks)
  • Or have handle pop out when you are approaching, and you do not touch the handle (door unlocks)
Then, you pull the handle to open the door.

Yea, I guess my point was...they reuse the name "proximity" sensor without clarifying. The "thing" you touch on the handle to lock is called the "proximity sensor". Mine has this...it has Comfort Access which means touching underneath to open, touching on top to lock...but it's MY20 and unlocking via proximity definitely does not work. Setting aside that you actually have to touch the "proximity sensor" to lock...is that the same sensor for unlocking in later models? Ultimately wondering if this was a hardware or software change.

from reading on other threads before .. it’s physically different hardware which is why it doesn’t work on MY20

It also says you have to touch it twice to lock. On my 2020 I only touch it once.

The fact that porsche has to release a 4 page document explaining how to open the door tells you all you need to know about this "feature". Absolutely no reason to over engineer something that had been working perfectly for decades.

Door handle, home link proximity, trunk opening by hand wave... all works about 60% of the time...

So, I try it every time... then use the key button...

Now, it's kinda habit, not annoying at all....

I am sure Porsche programmed it such way on purpose to tame us....

I’ve never had not one fail with the door handles popping out. I wish I was that dependable. My 992 is a 2021. Are all the door handle problems earlier years?

At least the trunk opening by hand wave is just a matter of waving over the right place (the sensor is inside the front bumper section, not under the trunk lid or the trunk's Porsche logo). Once you find the sweet spot it is very reliable.

From the manual:

Place your hand between the Porsche Crest and the number plate. Either move your hand in a forward and backward movement or make a swiping action.

Mine is MY20 & handles/bonnet have worked every time 💯

Luck of the draw I assume.

Unless you're washing the car, then the hood is popping up all the time
