Considering buying the 992 4S Carrera would the group recommend this as a first Porsche?

I like the convertible but $13K is it worth it?

Would love some feedback all comments welcome.

If you want to save money, get the S and the convertible. No need for the 4S

4S cab is sort of an oxymoron to me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Another option on top of 4S is Targa, the same price as Cab, prettier, better rear visibility, but less practical as the top cannot be operated while the car is in motion.

Cab visibility is pretty bad when the top is up, especially 4-5 O'clock position, and the rear window is tiny.

But when the top is down, in my opinion, Cab offers the best driving experience of all 3 top choices...

Cab also has wind blocker, operable at any speed, and with it up, you can even listen to music or have conversation with your passenger at highway speeds.

Get a 4S Cab or 4S Targa.

There are way too many 4S Coupes.

What is your experience, expectation, why 4S, etc...

More info is better or feedback is useless.

Don’t be the guy that buys one of these and a couple months later is bored.

So currently I have a Audi RS5 SB and looking to get this car as a weekend driver. I like tech that’s in this model and the cabriolet is definitely looks sweeter than a coupe.

I like the technology, I don’t plan to track it but maybe a tune and downpipes and exhaust down the road.

I do want to go through the whole experience of spec’ing the car which I am a rookie at.

Just looking to get feedback from people experience coupe vs cabriolet.

I have the 2S Cab. Love it. No need for 4 wheel unless you drive in snow. Rear vision is fine with top up - I have no problem driving around the city. Top down in the spring is heaven!

The Cab is significantly heavier than a coupe: you will feel the extra weight on the road in some situations and it has slightly less sprightly acceleration.

I don't see any need for 4 wheel drive unless you are racing or driving in a lot of snow. Rear view is good with the top up. LCA helps a lot because it gives confidence and will remind if you start to change lanes and someone is in that lane. If you get a Cab be sure to look into the Smart Top which allows you to put the top up and down with the fob and allows you in the car to just hit the top up or down once and not have to hold it.

Not true. S versions, PDK to PDK, we’re talking about 150 lbs difference. That’s not too bad

I am in a similar situation and am also leaning to a C4S. I enjoy convertibles but am concerned about cabin noise and security. I sincerely hope to drive it and when necessary, park it outside. I have an AWD Audi and we get unexpected storms, so for a car like this, I'm more comfortable with AWD. I had my mind set on a manual until I drove the PDK. Wow, tough choice, I am unsure now. The Targa would be amazing but for the first Porsche, I'm leaning towards a C4S.

Anyway, I appreciate your concern. I would like to get it perfect the first time but doubt that will be possible.

Unless you need a 4S for snow/winter there is very little benefit. I generally love AWD cars/SUV's for winter duty so I fully get the benefits of that plus winter tires. I don't drive my 911 in the winter so all weather is just not a concern for me but if I did I would probably go 4S. For me it was as simple as availability (not many cabs in 4S) and the fact my 911 will never see snow. The cab is a GREAT convertible with the windscreen up, after driving it there was no way I wasn't going topless but to each his own, just depends on how you will use it.

I have driven LOTS of manual transmission cars in my day and I'm never going back. Automatics have come such a long way and it's just too big of a performance hit for me. If you want to be more involved you can use the paddles. The dealbreaker for me is that if you get the manual you lose launch control on the 911, and you WILL miss that because it is that good and really is the best in the business. Even the slushbox in my M5 is a great transmission and I have no complaints. My M5 launches well but it's more a function of AWD and torque than engineering, the launch control works half the time, can take time to set, and isn't that great even when it works. Having to push buttons to launch is just stupid after driving the 911. In the 911 you just hold the brake, floor the gas, release brake and you are gone - no mode changes or button presses and it is amazing every single time.

I'm glad they still make manuals because there was a day i loved them, but i'm just over it. Again to each his own.
