Hmm... it's funny but I'm not sure I buy it. A quick googling turned up 185/70R15, 195/65R15, and 205/50R16 as some possibilities for a 1970 911. The narrowest of those (185) is 56% of the widest stock width I've seen (325) and that smaller tire looks like it's less than half the width. Maybe this is a tongue-in-cheek 911 vs VW bug thing?

Actually the picture looks about right. According to Tire Rack:
The overall diameter of the 185/70-15 is 25.2". Wheel width is 5.5". The tire section width is 7.3" and the actual tread width is 5.1".
The overall diameter of the 305/30-21 is 28.2". Wheel width is 11". The tire section width is 12.3" and the actual tread width is 11.6".
So the 1970 actual tread width is 44% and the height is 89% of the 2020 size.
