Default STEK vs EXPEL?

it’s down to these 2. Anyone have a strong preference?

they say STEK doesn’t need ceramic but XPEL does.....
(still going to ceramic all non painted parts and wheels.

thanks for any advice!

SunTek is hydrophobic while Xpel is not. Theoretically, then, you don't need a ceramic coating, as much on the SunTek, as you would for the Xpel. However, having done a full wrap in SunTek and a Ceramic Coating, I can
tell you that my car is amazingly easy to maintain. You hardly need the windshield wipers as the rain and snow just sheets off. Also brake dust just washes away with no effort with the ceramic coating.

looks like this all the time

I went with STEK - very happy - all depends on how good the installer's work is...

Thanks for those replies - just to clarify STEK is a different product from Suntek.

I only have experience with XPEL. Have been happy with the product. Go based on the installer rather than the product when both products are reputable. If the same installer offers both, I'd ask them which they can do a cleaner install on and which they prefer. I'd then go with that one. XPEL Ultimate Plus is very clear in my experience.

from my understanding, they are 2 different companies, both with a good product with built in hydrophobic elements but most seem to think STEK appearance/gloss is better. I’d welcome further insights. I asked about STEK vs XPEL because I have 3 local installers that all seem good. 2 use STEK, 1 uses XPEL.

Had Expel on 2 previous cars...wasn't really all that happy with it as I didn't find it was particularly good at "healing" and wasn't very glossy by itself. The 992 has STEK Dynoshield https://stekcanada.com/paint-protect...lm/dynoshield/ and I'm MUCH happier with it, very glossy, good hydrophobic properties (although I layer a DIY ceramic on top of it every other wash).

Yep, STEK is glossier...based on my experience comparing STEK and Xpel. The caveat is that the Xpel products I used on a previous Mercedes and an AMG were 4 and 2 years back, respectively. Maybe Xpel has something equivalent to STEK Dynoshield now.

I had the less expensive cover and used on my last two 911’s and a very good cover that fit well. I am waiting for my 992 to arrive and am contemplating purchasing the black cover and can’t figure out while it is twice the price. I can only guess it’s due to the sex appeal as it is a much better looking cover.

Buy the installer, not the product.

This. When we had wife's car done in '19 I knew *who* was doing install before i knew *what* they'd be using (which was STEK).

Cayman going in this Winter for same, very worthwhile (and enjoyable) experience when you get a top-rate installer.

As @BudgetPlan1 just mentioned, focus your attention on finding the best quality installer that you can, rather than what kind of film they use. An excellent installer can make mediocre film look great, while most installers are mediocre and they can make the best film look mediocre.

With that being said, with a good installer you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Xpel, SunTek, or Stek. They are so similar (and all excellent) that they are going to work well when installed properly. They are all the same thickness, all have the same protection qualities, and all can be ceramic coated (even though marketing from some may say that you "don't need to"). Again- the biggest determining factor of a good looking installation vs. a bad looking installation is the skill of the person(s) installing it.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for all those replies - super helpful.

got quotes for 6400 vs 5000 both for full body ppf not counting ceramic....hard to tell from reviews which is a better installer - quite a price range though!
