Default Ceramic coating on windshield/glass?

Hi guys.
My 992 4S is on it’s way to the dealer.
Now thinking about full PPF and ceramic coating.
I saw some posts on another community about not applying ceramic coating on the glass. Something to do with seeing reflections that look like crystals on the glass.
What’s the general advise?

Ceramic coating on the windshield or avoid it?

Thanks!

I have ceramic coating on my windshields. Water just beads right off -- if you're going fast, wipers are barely necessary. Without water, you can't tell that it's coated by looking at -- no reflections or weird artifacts. My detailer uses a different type/brand of coating than the rest of the car that is specifically for windshields.

Seems like my dealer is looking at using Cilajet for the car. I’m not sure if that means it also will be used for the windshield.
I sent them an email to clarify but I have feeling that it will be the same (Cilajet).

I wonder if others have used this brand?

Edit: He just texted me. Cilajet will be used for the windshield as well if I choose to add it.

I wouldn’t and didn’t let the dealer apply anything. Take it to a local five star detail shop. Check the video above.

I had ceramic applied to my windshield and like it. No issues. I applied it to avert stone chips and care didn’t about the water beading up, but it is a bonus.

On my previous vehicle I put a Clearplex ppf on my windshield as well as a ceramic coating. I live in Phoenix, so heat is a serious issue here during the summer. Although the clearplex wasn't perfect, it did save my windshield about 4 times and took the bulk of the rocks thrown up by other cars. After that, I'm strongly considering it for my 992.

Ceramic can be done in a few different degrees of heat reduction too. So I would want to know what your dealership is putting on yours. I opted for the 98% heat reduction vs the standard 45% which makes a big difference.

Hope that helps.

When you say the Clearplex wasn't perfect, what was the problem? Did you experience refractions, chattering wiper blades, or other issues?

Doesn't rain much here, but the wiper blades did make some noise when I had to use them once. Wasn't a big deal for me. Cleaning it was interesting as it's not glass (go figure).

Main complaint was in certain light it looked like there was a million little air bubbles in the glass and once it was hit by a smaller rock, the indent didn't heal like most PPFs and you could see it forever. With AZ there are small rocks EVERYWHERE and it is a common occurrence to feel like you're being sand blasted. Enough that even though I wasn't 100% sold on the clearplex, it is worth revisiting again on the 992.

I have used both Carpro's glass coating and Optimum's glass coating. Both were good and I'd use them on a daily driver. Weekend car that isn't having rain exposure, up to you.

No coating the glass on my 992. The windshield looked like it had been sandblasted when the sun hit it after the ceramic was applied on my 991.2.

Yeah used GTechniq's G1 on my Audi and it was okay. Works similar to their Exo V3 and Crystal Light ceramic products for the overall car. Also RainX products work great and are readily available but of course last less longer.

My 992 GTS is in for PPF and ceramic coating right now. It has the lightweight glass option. Does anybody know if there are any negative consequences to applying a ceramic coating to the glass?

i have my windshield coated with GTechniq i believe
i didnt notice anything weird with the reflections or anything like that
but my wiper blades do skip from time to time
not on the way up but the way back down
local dealership says its because of the coating applied to the windshield

yesterday was the first day it rained since i bought the car
so first time i tested the wipers
maybe they still are breaking in
maybe i need to get this coating off for the skipping to stop
only time can tell

fwiw, I traded in a 992 C4S and if I remember correctly, the wipers weren't the greatest so it may not be the coating. I would give it some time to see if the skipping gets better before removing the coating if that's the only issue you're experiencing.

I'm more worried about putting on a coating and causing delamination of the lightweight glass, spots or something like you mentioned, weird reflections.
