Apple Car Play vs. PCM Interface Poll for Those Who’ve Used Both in a 992.
This poll is for those having had experience with both the native PCM and CarPlay interfaces in a 992. I’ll disclose I’m not an Apple fan. This despite having most of Apple’s products. Integration trumps my dislikes. I find value in doing things like setting a timer for the grill on my phone and having it come with me on my watch when I head outside. Files can be seamlessly accessed from most devices, etc, etc.
Since August I’ve been using the PCM interface and find it to be really good for the most part. However, after getting an I-Phone 12 I couldn’t resist and checked CarPlay when setting up the new phone in the car. I’m sorry to say so far I find it to be the better way to go although it’s only been a couple of days. CarPlay seems to give up some screen resolution and full screen capabilities, although perhaps I’ll find settings for those I haven’t yet discovered.

PCM is great but essential apps such as Waze snd YT Music mean I use CarPlay mostly - I like the way that apps can run in the background on CP and prompt you when needed.

I have not found any way to make CarPlay go full screen in PCM, but what did help usability was customizing the PCM info widget (from the Home Screen top menu) to show exactly what I needed to access/change most frequently. Then I can swipe up and down on the info widget to switch between that custom panel and, for example, the HVAC panel. Right now, I set my custom info widget to show shortcuts to the spoiler control, the auto start stop, the turn PCM screen off, and the Bose tone settings.

I have the same PCM in a Macan. Sure am glad it supports CarPlay, because wow.

Is resolution lower on CarPlay in the 718? It seems to be in the 992 and Cayenne which both lack full screen in CarPlay.

I wish CarPlay could display on the first (home) screen of the PCM and still have a few toggles from PCM right next to it, instead of having to switch to a different screen for CarPlay.
