Default Temporary PPF? - Driving New Car Home

My dealer is about 150 miles away from home.

When I pick up my new car, I'm not going to be able to send it directly to a PPF installer, but want to provide some temporary protection until I get the actual PPF put on.

I'm thinking about picking up a roll or two of cheap 24x80 film and just covering what I can at the dealership... don't really care about bubbles sloppiness etc.

Thoughts?

What have you done to temporarily protect your paint?

Take a back road home. And don't tailgate anyone. You'll be fine.

Probably your best option if you want temporary PPF.

Just figure out which areas you want to protect. You could do high impact areas only but then have to decide on areas like rocker panels, which I would want to do in clear film.

I got PPF done about 2 weeks after I bought mine. It's totally fine.

I really don't think you need to take the extra precaution

i would say it's totally unnecessary. a good installer is going to make sure your paint is perfect before wrapping. if you want to be extra careful, take back roads, drive slowly, and steer away from the obvious offenders.

I know the risk MAY be low... but it will be difficult to stay off freeways for the 150+ Miles home.... and for less than $50 bucks and 10 minutes of application time, It would be very disappointing to get a chip when it could have easily been mitigated.

There was a PEC delivery video where they essentially taped thick trash bags to the car. Seems a little extreme.
I agree avoid getting close to trucks or cars in general, take empty roads or good roads and you should be fine.

Interesting as I drove my Boxster for a year and a half with no special precautions and never had a single rock chip in over 12K miles and I drove it hard and fast and did not avoid anything - you should be fine for a drive home

This is a good option.

Or you can just use painter's tape if you want to save some money and don't really care about looking like the blue cousin of Rudolph the red nose reindeer.

I think I'm suffering from battered Porsche rock-chip syndrome.... as I just sold my 2018 10,000 Mile car with almost 20 chips.... Did I mention that Central Florida highway construction really sucks?

That because you were probably always crawling along in jam-packed traffic :P

This "Ultimate I4" project has been going on for years... and you cannot avoid dump trucks and construction debris everywhere.
In any case, glad you never experienced any chips and hope you don't get any in the future!
