Interesting story on what it takes to bring 'My Porsche' to us
This popped up on my LinkedIn feed this week, the article itself is a few months old but I was intrigued to read with the statement that 17 separate teams at Porsche are involved in providing parts of what we collectively know as 'My Porsche'. No mention of TYD so I guess that's yet another team, or maybe it's one of the 17.

Their #1 and #2 "Challenges" (LOL, good use of their corporate thesaurus) are oh so familiar. Aligning disparate corporate silo's is as much, if not more of a social/ego-centric transformation and transaction as it is a technical one.

They should really be embarrassed by this product, and especially TYD. One small agile team of developers (5 max) could make TYD world class in a few months. I see this all the time - companies too big to get out of their own way.

It seems like a colossal effort to create a solution searching for a problem.

To be fair, this is not TYD. It's the whole 'My Porsche' website including mobile apps and across all their model range. Having been in IT for over 40 years this is not over the top, some of the 17 'teams' may in fact be a couple of people working on one specific use case.

Absolutely; you can imagine the conversations. Years ago I worked for a start-up credit union in New Zealand, they were able to run an admittedly small but nonetheless nation wide store and ATM network with less than 200 people simply because there was no corporate legacy to battle. Why I really like working in small, agile companies. Get big, get niche, or get out.....
