Don't base the MT desire on enthusiast sites - look at the take rate for MT in North America and you will quickly see why dealers don't spec MT. They are sought after in the used market by enthusiasts, they are rare because, other than with enthusiasts, they are unpopular. This isn't a knock on MT, simply the way the market is going. As the 911 moves further and further into GT territory the buyers want less MT. I would guess that the Cayman/Boxster have a higher take rate because they are now the sports cars of the lineup but that's just a guess.
Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the take rate in the US for 911 w/ MT was approx 25% and that we are one of the main reasons they still produce MT's? I thought I read that on this forum. I could be and probably am wrong. LOL

Not sure how accurate this quote from MSN might be -
"Porsche expects about 20 percent of U.S. buyers to go for the manual, which is similar to the mix for the outgoing 991.2 model and the highest take rate in any market. In Germany, that figure dips into the single digits".
Dealers have different ways of building cars
some depend on SA that has been there for a while and know the product well and know their customer base
some will only allow the GM to build
but basically it is not an accurate science and they don't use any computer program
A lady friend of mine is the GM at a MB dealership, and the owner will only allow her to build cars, so she will always ask me and my son to build the AMG cars for her and she said our builds always sell quickly !!
also sometimes the factory send them cars prebuilt to certain specs and the dealer has to accept. Happens mostly with other German brands as compared to Porsche , but for example my .1 GT3RS was a bone that factory threw to the dealer for good sales and it was already built and I grabbed it

The people hanging out in this forum are ,mostly dedicated Porsche fanatics. Most people buying a 911 are howeer people wanting a fast car and a Porsche badge. For them the actual build almost dose not matter. it is for them that the dealer allocations are being built. Dealers know that for the most part no matter what they put in or for that matter leave out there will be someone that takes the car and especially given that the margin on the options are higher than those on the actual car it gives them Carte Blanche to do what they want. Most cars I find though are going to be top heavy with creature comfort options and very expensive options . There is clearly no sience to it other than build them fancy, expensive and options heavy aside from a couple of low optioned ones for someone that is not prepared to pay 150K .
