When drying my wheel today after a wash, I realize there is a chip on the front brake rotor edge. After inspected closely I think it was machined like that for balancing. Does anyone else have the same thing happened on their rotors?
That is not a chip. That is a machined process. I am almost certain that is for balancing. Unlike balancing wheels, where weight is added, the balancing of rotors (and many other machined or plastic-molded parts) uses the term "negative balancing" where, during the balancing process, weight is taken off the rotor.

That's what I thought too, but usually its just a notch on the side of the rotor that shouldn't be able to see from the front of the wheel
Same thing on both sides should put you at ease, also the fact that the cut surface looks smooth suggests that this was done on purpose (Hanz at the factory is trying to assassinate you)
