I have a June 2019 build and at times, it does seem that there are FEWER issues with EARLY 992s than later builds.
Perhaps we got our cars before the guys at the plant got cocky. LOL
When something needs to be fixed, the PDK is most certainly serviceable. Porsche’s 7 speed manual is based upon the 7 speed PDK transmission.
Now, if they want to replace the whole transmission under warranty, take that option.
Hmmm. I’m not sure that you’re correct. Can they fix a PDK in Germany ? I’m sure they can. But, they won’t crack one open here. They replace the whole thing.
There was a whole thing on the 991 (I’m too lazy to look for it). From memory - There was a tiny pin that became unserviceable within the PDK. It had something to do with indicating to the car that it was in reverse. Once it failed, strange carnage occurred in vaguely related systems. They just replaced the entire thing and sent the old one East. Under warranty of course.
The mechanic I take my car to reels me that some companies refurbish PDK, Porsche replaces the whole thing. I recall a story on the 991 section of a sensor that triggers the reverse light being defective and the dealer wanted to replace the whole PDK. Allegedly, the PDK is not serviceable, but watching wheelers dealers I learned that's relative. Under warranty, I'd rather have it replaced.
I agree. Id rather them slap a new one in than try fix it. So thats one problem down. I just need them to figure out whats causing a thump in the steering linkage when entering into driveways or inclines next. It sounds like a tie rod with a missing bushing that holds into place until moved the other way and causes it to thump. I can feel it down the steering wheel when it happens so its alarming. And finally, the roof swirls they caused need to be fixed too. But hey, we got the ball rolling in the right direction so Im thankful for that.
I bought first model year F80 M3 and it was flawless. But agree, don't really think that's the norm.
I wonder if it's becoming more of a thing for Porsche with ever increasing electronic complexity.
Same here, I bought a 15 F80 M3 in June 2014 and it was flawless the 3 years I owned it. It was the launch car and one of the first F80's on the west coast. No issues what so ever... it seems like BMW stepped up their quality after the mid 2010s.

Bigworm, any updates on your tranny? Which dealer is servicing your car?
