fuel preference...

100+ RON unleaded no ethanol is always my goal. I used to buy it wholesale by the drum for race car before I started keeping it at the track. I kept it up for my street cars, filling up at home. Sounds like a chore but it’s no more hassle really.
Stopped doing this last year as couple more stations started to sell it at the pump. Only a handful of stations still sell it but I will base my trips around those stations. Closest one to my home now is larger town 60kms away but it’s a mountain pass to get there so hardly a chore.
At a pinch I will use 98 RON but hate doing so.
I would rather get car flat bed to somewhere than run anything less than 98 RON.
Everything from my wife’s subaru to my classic cars to my lawn mower run better on high octane.
Fuel quality, tyre pressures and wheel alignments continue to be the most overlooked and/or misunderstood areas of the Instagram auto enthusiast generation.
A large reason why I’ll never buy a used car again. I take pride in knowing that my cars have always had a certain fuel. Have been kept in a climate controlled garage and never started below 20degC. I keep all my fuel receipts and a log book. Here’s not just a record of when and what oil the car has had, here’s a record of the fuel it’s had.
That’s not to say they’re garage queens, they get used - trust me.. But there’s a larger personal satisfaction in this type of thing - for me anyway. I know I’m not alone.

Recently discovered on a romp through British Columbia that Chevron has 94 octane with NO ETHANOL. Bonus: already has Techron added.
Turns out there are a couple of Chevron stations that have it where I live.

Just regular 87, with whatever it comes, at the closest gas station...runs fine and have never had an issue over many modern performance cars. Obviously not getting max performance, but can't tell the difference puttering around town. When max perfromance matters, like track day, pump 93.

Unfortunately my lawn mower days are long gone...though the satisfaction of looking at completed work, as well as the smell of a 2 stroke, is missed.
But, yep, went to 87 about a decade ago after mistakenly putting a tank full in a new 458. Thought, "oh boy, I'm screwed" and puttered over to my dealer, thankfully just a couple miles away, to report the error of my ways. They just chuckled and said treat it like a Toyota and it will just adjust to the fuel octane. Sure enough, let it rip a few times, and it seemed fine. I'm sure it was slightly slower, but unnoticable for everyday errand running. I felt sure it would run-on in really hot conditions, but nothing. Put 93 in it for track days, but otherwise 87. Since then, other F cars, AMG's, the 992, all get 87 for everyday with no issues at all...modern software at its best. Reflecting on my behavior, you might fairly conclude this is penny wise and pound foolish, as there's also some healthy ambvilance on the annual oil change schedule. Call this a non-track way of testing the limits.

I like the idea of something extra to keep injectors clean. I'll give Techron a try a few times for peace of mind.

Any top tier gas will do. I use costco or valero mostly as they are the cheapest and also convenient (and top tier of course). 93 octane always. Shell is considerably more expensive at most stations around here (south florida) but that jives with their "premium" branding.

Do you also lick it clean?

Costco only. Cheap price, 93 octane, and it is high tier rated

Shell V-Power only
