I am looking to order a 2021 C2 towards the end of this year for delivery next year. This will be my first Porsche and it is a car I intend to keep for a long time, probably in the range of 10 years. My question to people that have had a few Porsche's or had them for a number of years. Overall what is the reliability like on them, do they tend to be troublesome or relatively trouble free. Thank you all in advance for your opinions.
The old ones were built with metal and brawn. With basic tools, they last forever. There is very little plastic and everything is screwed together. Those cars are tough little bastards.
The new ones are as reliable as any modern car. Standard occasional gremlins, but the powertrain is very solid and you can beat on them day in and day out. They are not exotic, temperamental cars. But it's full of computers and non replaceable parts. 10 years should be fine, but beyond that who knows.
My wife's first Porsche was a 914 and was quite reliable but her 2001 Boxster S was a lemon basically (I'm pretty sure it was built during Oktoberfest) so when the extended warranty that I wrangled from Porsche expired, we got rid of it but my wife loved that car. But even though it was, I still saw how Porsche did everything in their power to relentlessly fix the various issues and I bought a 2003 C4S. It was extremely reliable and had very few issues although it was only kept about 5 years total.
My 2004 996 TT however was a car I kept for over 13 years and it was the most "bullet-proof" vehicle I have ever owned. I truly loved that car and only got rid of it because I wanted something a lot newer. I only kept my Cayman GTS a little over 2 years and never had ANY issues with it but that is a short time frame for sure. Now I have the 992 for a whopping 2+ weeks so ....
I think the Porsche's, in general, are very well made and the dealerships I have taken them to, service them wholeheartedly whether I purchased them from them or not. The ones I've dealt with never give me any grief about issues and have always treated me very well. Hopefully your mileage will NOT vary on that. But you will (should) know within your 4 year warranty period how reliable yours will be (at least that has been my experience) so you should feel fairly confident in keeping it that long IMO.
Check the JD Power reliability rating. 911's are always the most reliable sports car they rate. Period.
(I used to work for JD Power and the data is based on owner data, not what JD Power "thinks" how reliable the 911 might be.)
My 6th 911 is on order, and they always have been excellent cars; my only 'gremlins' have been a few rattles, most of which the dealer was able to resolve, and are typically due to the fact that I wanted to buy the first car off the line.... 3-4 yrs into it, most if not all rattles disappear.
I'm on number 13 and have loved them all and can count on one hand the number of real problems I had on all of them. Very reliable cars but be religious about the maintenance schedule.
