Default Sport Design Rear Bumperette Removal?

Overall, I prefer the 992 Sport Design rear. To my eye, it breaks up the rear bumper and shifts the license plate placement enough to give the rear a bit more balance. The obvious drawback to the US spec is the plate bumperette piece that has, for some reason, been deemed necessary in North America. My question is: Has anyone had luck removing the bumperette and mounting a US plate? Akrapovic's video for the slip-on exhaust shows what an SD'd 992 looks like with (what appears to be) a US-sized plate, and I think it works just fine.

Any reports of experiences successfully removing the bumperette would be appreciated!

Biggest reason I didn’t opt for it. Interested to see if it’s possible.

Would clean up the rear for sure.

I’m also interested to see if anyone has painted their winglets on the rear corners black, to blend in... not a fan of that design element and it’s the second reason why I didn’t choose it.

The winglets in the rear corners are lot less noticeable in black or grey cars. Here's my Agate Grey.

Have also since added the side skirts,

You could always put black or CF vinyl on it.

Have you tried looking through a parts diagram explosion of this? Sometimes it will give you an idea of how it's mounted. I know on my i8 they could not be removed without leaving holes.

I was actually trying to find pictures of it - seeing it in the above pic isn't as bad as I expected. At least it's no Chiron.

I had no idea it was there until smiles photoshopped the back of my car to show it to me and i removed my plate holder and installed a new one and still did not notice

Heh. Well the non-sport has tiny little nubs in the corners...pretty well integrated though, it honestly looks like part of the design vs. after thought. These ones are molded right into the panel though.

Some don’t mind the bumperette, and it’s not noticeable to the untrained eye. It just seems unnecessary to have that bracket there to hold the plate. If not for that, I’d of been tempted at full SD.

^^ Don’t forget the painters tape when prying it off lol

It would of also been nice if there wasn’t a big rectangle cutout into the bumper; and they made it more seamless like the TT/S

Oh okay. I’d imagine there has to be some bolts behind the bumper to remove it. So I would think it’s possible

Mine can be lifted up. But I didn't pull too hard on it.

Will someone else get under the bumper and let us know how it comes off and what it leaves behind? ...lol.

Dusting the cobwebs off this thread...

Would a generous SD rear bumper owner among us be willing and able to put eyes on the back of the bumper where the attachment points for the bumperette might be located?

EDIT: I realize seeing anything might be impossible with complete removal of the rear bumper, so if someone does happen to remove the rear (you know, to put an Akra exhaust on or something) and would be willing to snap a pic of the back side of the removed bumper, that would be awesome!

Also: If the bumperette is regulatory for the US, would bumperette removal be cause for loss of warranty from Porsche, or loss of insurance coverage in the event of an accident?
