I'm all for an MT in a Porsche...just not in a DD 911. In a GT car or a weekend use Cayman or Boxster, would go manual.

MT for me. I took a PDK out for a test drive and found it to be incredibly busy on a tight, winding road. If I had one, it would be in manual mode all the time, and I might do that in the future when my left leg gives out.

If there is any inclination that your car will see a track (like mine) and frequent track days. PDK all the way.

I was surprised by the basically equal split between PDK and Manual.

Only because this is an enthusiast forum that represents a minuscule % of 992 buyers, and many enthusiasts prefer MTs. I suspect that in real life it will turn out to be 9.5 to .5 PDK to MT or greater - probably even worse now that MT is only available on an S. I would have ordered the non S if I could have had a MT.

As a general rule, dealers only order PDK cars unless the car is a SOLD ORDER. Looking around the country, it appears there are only 4-7 new MT 992s available on dealer lots compared to how many PDKs? Both great, just my thoughts on why the numbers look this way on the poll so far.

How about the option of Manual if partner/wife/SO could drive stick? For those of looking at using it as a DD.

Or how about the option of manual because your partner can't?

A while back, I read an article about the history of the MT that said by the end of the 1950s, 85% of all vehicles sold in the US were automatics. Meanwhile, I came of age in the 60s and 70s drooling over muscle cars, Jags and Porsches. Shortly after I graduated college in the early-80s, my first company transferred me to Europe. It was fantasy land. Every rental car was an MT. Every one (and that continued into the 90s). All the big engined 7ers and S-Klasses had sticks. And everyone bought them! I'm sure that over 85% of all vehicles sold in Europe in the 80s were MTs. Europeans were so enlightened. I thought. And then that cosmic shift happened . . .

100% yes. My buddy with a 991.2 GTS tracks his all the time and why he has a PDK. All the experts love it.

Sorry y'all ... those two responses just didn't occur to me since my spouse a) loves Porsche's, and b) loves driving a stick even more. Maybe next time.

Yep!! When I used to travel to Europe semi-frequently, as soon as they found out I was an American, they would tease me about having to drive cars with nothing but automatics. Of course, I would tell them I was in the minority and loved to drive a MT. They just couldn't fathom us driving cars like that, but usually understood better when I explained about the heavy rush traffic in a lot of our larger cities. The pendulum has definitely swing radically the other way, because as I recall the article I referred to said that European's only account for less than 10% now (single digits).

Not to mention, it's now an effective anti-theft device. A few years ago, a woman was carjacked at an intersection in downtown Knoxville (not a common occurrence), but were foiled when they tried to drive off and promptly stalled out the vehicle because (you guessed it), it was a MT and they simply couldn't drive it!

I know it sounds funny, but MTs really are theft deterrents now. I'd be curious to see the results of another poll - How many PDK drivers don't know how to drive an MT?

Love manual and will always try and own one... 992 manual is supposed to be amazing. If I was ordering I'd get manual but I would have no problem with a PDK either. both are amazing.
