Default Another "Base is Best" 992 Review

Only joking,

I love all of the models. I do agree with him though.

Yep...C4 has all the attributes of base highlighted in story (admittedly with marginally less steering feel), plus AWD to get me through Canadian winters as a true daily driver. Looking forward to Porsche finding my car (it's built and currently somewhere in Germany, maybe still in a lot it was shuffled to awaiting ED pickup) and getting it on a boat.

With base cars running 0-60s in the threes, and nothing outside differentiating a C2 from a C4S (with a couple of carefully selected options), a moderately optioned C4 was the easy, right choice for me.

Well written.
992 base comes with many standard features.

Ditto. I'm really glad that I cancelled my base and found a C4 allocation. The C4, to me, is just the best of everything the 992 offers as a daily driver vehicle.

Yes, I have seen your winters.

I have been following the excellent Cold War Motors channel for some time now. You have cold winters!

This channel is good for "car enthusiasts".

I think "Car Consumers" and the general public would run for the hills.

My C2 has now done 4,500 miles. I have loved every second of it. It is so great in so many ways.

Far as I am concerned, the 992 is the best thing out there.

There is no bad model in the 992 line-up, they are all delicious.

lol. That's quite the paint booth!

Yep...a foot of snow can happen anytime here from October through May. A RWD 911 with full snows is somewhere around a 350-day a year driver, with 30 of those winter days a bit challenging (but crazy fun). C4 with standard nose and snows will do 365 duty without breaking a sweat.

Absolutely! It really is a crime. People who demand manuals obviously don't hold power and speed above all else. The base with a manual would be the sweet spot for me. But I'm convinced that Porsche is deliberately only offering the manual in the S to limit the number of manuals they sell. Then they will justify killing the manual altogether by citing the low take rate.

They're saving it for the Carrera T.

ProbabIy correct, but I don't want a T! I refuse to buy a vehicle that uses door straps instead of handles to save a few ounces. I don't feel like paying for the extra power and stuff that comes with the S and that I don't need, and while I agree with GCurnew that the C4 makes a better DD in a Canadian winter, I am retired and I go out in the snow when I want to, not when I have to. RWD has worked for 50 Canadian winters and will work for a lot more. I want a Guards Red C2 manual with relatively few options. Doesn't look like happening, unfortunately.

It does seem rather short-sighted of Porsche to not offer a manual in the C2. From an engineering and packaging perspective, it would cost them nothing. BTW, "welcome" from the "other" site (presuming your user name is the same).

Absolutely a ploy to force an S model upgrade on people who might otherwise not pay for it!

Since the base isn't available with 7MT, it's disqualified
