Their HomeLink implementation is so poor, they ought to do a recall and retrofit this for free. I know, never will happen.

I agree with this! Love the car, but the homelink is such a mess that I've considered going back to a 991! I have a gate to our neighborhood, at my house and then the garage doors. Seems to work about 50% of the time. Have to stop when you pull out of the garage and push several buttons/menus to get the door closed! I gave up and have my old remotes back on the visor. Ridiculous. My 991 and my 997 both work all gates and garages perfectly. What a disaster. If I knew this when buying the car, I wouldn't have bought it.

I agree, I've considered going back to a 991 for other reasons not including homelink.

For my 992, I use homelink on my diamond toggle, takes me to the homelink profile on the screen, and then it's one tap on the screen to open the garage. That implementation does not bother me so much with the extra tap on the screen, but it's more so having to put the car into park after backing out of the garage so the reverse camera goes away... and then pressing the toggle/screen to close the door, and then back into reverse again.

Sheesh, I got exhausted just typing that.

I do the exact same thing! Diamond on the steering wheel is homelink. I still hate it. takes several button pushes to get it to work. Horrible system that Porsche should be ashamed of. Someone should have got fired for that one.

I have never had the necessary knowledge to program and connect all this alone. Recently, my family and I moved to a new house. Now we are engaged in replacing the fence and gate. I plan to buy a large seven-meter automatic gate. I have already found the guys who will install them (if someone can need it, then this is who I'm talking about: https://everlastgates.com/austin-texas-automatic-gate-repair-installation/). I am sure that they will also deal with all the electronics related to this. This is clearly not the best activity to constantly open and close the gate by getting out of the car and pressing the button. Automation is the future!

Our gate has an antenna, so you would just program it in your car like the garage doors.

slwong, had the same issue but it turned out my gate signal is not compatible with homelink.
What type of gate are you dealing with?
Have you seen this video (there is a part about community gates):

Thanks for sharing the video @JRoach. I heard through the builder that our gate (not sure the type) is not Homelink compatible, however, one of my neighbors did get their Teslas working with it so not sure the builder was correct unless Tesla use a different system. In any case, I never tried programming my 992 again and placed the clicker in the small side pocket on the door - it's out of sight, I don't have to futz with the PCM, and it works consistently each time. I'm used it to now so will just continue with the old school method.

Is it possible (in principle) to program two homelink compatible gate/garage entries independently in the 992’s PCM? I’m accustomed to the 3 buttons provided for that purpose in my 718CS, and I’m curious whether I will have the same functionality, (if not the simplicity) on my C2 when it arrives, (build date 1/7/22).

Yes. The 992 stores different HomeLink profiles, each with their own GPS. Regardless of the 992 HomeLink GPS usability issues, you still have multiple "buttons" via these profiles and can thereby control different HomeLink devices. I don't see any limit on the number of HomeLink profiles stated in the manual, but it is at least 2 so you should be good (I had 2 programmed myself during experimentation).

The “backing out of the garage” issue is what got me. I successfully programmed the HomeLink (but only after consulting YouTube, as the manual is useless) but then having to go through a song and dance after backing out, plus having to do the same thing the 30% of the time it fails when arriving, convinced me to keep the little box clipped onto my visor.

It’s a really stupid design. Ranks right up with the pleather straps that replaced the simple and highly functional seat-back release lever I had in my 997. On the other hand, the key for the 997 managed to release the trunk by itself about once a week, which the 992 doesn’t do. Sigh…

I’d love to see an after-market button that you can attach to the windshield behind the mirror, like an EZPass transponder.
