992 vs Tesla Model 3 Performance test from carwow
|
Curious why the 992 only managed an 11.7 quarter mile and got smoked in the 0-60, it looked like the start was about equal. It should be at least a half second faster than a Model 3 in both tests, according to every magazine testing I've seen. Unless it was a manual or he was using paddles poorly?
But agreed, this video did not give me warm fuzzy feelings. |
I dunno, my wife’s Model X is fast. And more importantly, it’s a very easy to use and simple fast. Just press the pedal and go. No launch control, no careful shifting, no wheel slip. No downshifting into the power band. No over-rev reports. Just step on it at any speed and it’s a huge surge of power.
However, to me, if feels like a very fast appliance. it’s becoming clear, and will be blatantly obvious soon, that if you want acceleration numbers, an electric is the way to go. But if you want the soon-to-be-historic experience of driving an ICE car, changing gears, hearing revs, wailing exhaust, then the electric revolution won’t be for you. |
Is that just stomp & go or was there a warmup procedure required for the Tesla beforehand?
Also, maybe this is just my own personal experience, but has anyone ever seen someone out there driving their Tesla aggressively like it was a sports car? I only ever see random Teslas here and there poking around town in traffic. |
I imagine if this was a C4S the story would have been much different in the drag race...

Is this still news to anyone? The performance models of any of the Teslas smoke nearly anything in a straight line. Your Porsche is not meant to be a straight line tool. The best thing about these is the handling through twisties.
If 0-60 is your metric of choice, you should buy a Tesla and save a ton of $. BTW your title is wrong -- this is a model 3, not S. |

it was a surprise for me since the Tesla Model 3 is known to have 3.2 seconds 0-60 time. Whereas 911 seems to be doing as low as 3 seconds. |

If you are buying a 911S (non 4), chances are you'll lose most stoplight races to a Tesla P model, whether it's 3, S, X, or upcoming Y. Until you get above 100mph and/or the twisties, that's just how it's going to be. |
It's blantantly obvious traction was a major issue, look at the results after the tires got a little heat awd vs rwd is not a real world test not that it really matters to those who truly want a "quality" car. Not a piece of **** that goes fast in a straight line. The road noise is rediculois, panels don't line up and the interior is far from luxury. I know this because I have one we use for a delivery car and it's not that enjoyable unless your a millennial that doesn't know how to shift let alone drive a manual. My c2s manual should be here in April and can't wait!
|
I just don’t care. Maybe 10 years ago it would have bothered me but the c2s is already fast as hell. There is so much more to these cars than 0-60. The 911 is the complete package. That’s why people get them. Not a big mystery.
I respect Tesla but I could not care less about them. The Tesla culture is also...interesting. |
1/4 in 11.5 seconds from 450hp and it’s not good enough😆 will we humans ever be satisfied? Just watched that video and it did seem like the Porsche wasn’t being run consistantly, meaning the driver wasn’t consistant. The 992 Turbo will surely be 10.5ish in the 1/4. This will give you a natural face lift whenever you desire. Just punch it
|
RWD vs AWD isn't a fair fight. Plus, this is a particulate filter equipped 992 C2S.
A US spec C4S might end differently. Then again, this kind of thing isn't what a 911 is for. Having spent several hundred miles behind the wheel of a Model 3, I'd take the 911 any day of the week. |

Brave new world where such a comparison is even discussed, let alone taken seriously.
|
Why is this a surprise to anyone? It’s nearly impossible to compete with electric cars (Tesla or otherwise) and their torque.
