I am not sure their is even 1 cm in the diameter difference between 19/20 and 20/21s.

Looking at the on line tyre calculator, Tte difference between the overall diameter of the 19/20 v's the 20/21 wheels (with the tyres on) is an average of 3mm. Most wheels come with 8mm of tread new, so they shrink by around 14mm in diameter over their lifetime anyway before the legal minimum.

Therefore the 20/21s do not "fill out" the wheel arches to any significant degree more than the smaller standard C2 wheel.

The smaller wheels have the distinct advantage of a bit more air in them!

This fashion for removing air from tyres is great for alloy wheel manufacturers but bad for motorists.

Mr Michelin wold turn in his grave if he could see all this rubber band shenanigans.

I think the whole thing is just a clever way of Mr Porsche improving his profit margins on the C2 buyers as a 21 inch wheel probably costs the same to manufacture as a 19 inch wheel.

Actually, there's a meaningful enough size difference in the wheels that the PCM offers different settings for the 19/20 and 20/21 wheels.
The 40 and 35 series tires on the 19/20 wheels are still very much "rubber bands" in any other world.
Considering that 19/20 wheels wear narrower tires than the 20/21 wheels, the difference in air from the profile is cancelled out by width.
Owning both a set of the 19/20 and 20/21 wheels for my 992, the difference in the way that they fill out the wheel wells is obvious. The 20/21s look great, but the 19/20s could use spacers if you care about such things.
The bigger wheels are delivering a bigger contact patch.

Yes, the 20/21 wheels are the premium wheels and Porsche tends to charge a premium for premium stuff, but if you can swing them, they do look better than the entirely functional and totally okay base wheel.

Derek,

Love what you did here, looks wonderful. I'm not really sure what I think of silver wheels against chalk, but I love them in platinum satin w/ chalk.

I actually ordered my 992C2S in chalk w/ platinum satin Carrera S 20/21 wheels, which I think look very nice, and I just bought a set of 19/20 take-offs from a RL user that went in a different direction.

Going to have them powdercoated Platinum Satin, probably drive them this summer to make the most of the 19/20" tires they came w/, and then in the fall I'll get winter tires put on them and they'll become my winter set most likely.

Thanks so much for sharing your great idea!

You're very welcome! I thought the silver wheels looked cheap against the chalk bodywork and here I am, almost a year later, and still delighted by that satin platinum.

Also - Do you notice any difference in handling between 19/20 and 20/21?

No I don't but, then, I'm a 68 year old ex accountant and I hardly push my cars anywhere near their limits!

Hello, do you know what thread the pictures were on or if anyone has had the standard wheels painted black?

Do you mean these? (Dark grey rather than black, though.)

Absolutely loving my 19/20 powdercoated satin black on my c2s. Excuse my post-wash orange brake discs.

Hey, guys. New to Porsche and havent gotten mine yet. I ordered a 2022 992 C2.

Aesthetics aside, Is there any benefit to the 19/20 wheels? Less bumpy ride perhaps?

It’s still a very low profile tire. No difference in ride quality compared to the 20/21. If you want more comfort, run with comfort pressures.

Thanks! Yeah, Im not racing or doing over 100 mph seldom. Which tires do you recommend that are a nice blend of sport without too much fast wear and price?

If you have the 19/20s, there is a Michelin Pilot Sport 4S fitment. Some of the 19/20 992s have even shipped with Michelin’s.

Thanks. I havent finalized spec. Only put a deposit down but commission has not begun. Can change wheels. Trying to figure out what I want right now. I like the look of 20/21 low profile etc. But I dont want to sacrifice looks for ride experience.

If I were on the fence between 19/20's and 20/21's I'd go with the 20/21's. If it turns out you don't like the 20/21's: 1.) There are certainty more than a few folks who'd be willing to take a clean set of 20/21's off your hands for considerably more than a new set of 19/20's with tires will set you back. 2.) Because new 19/20's with tires can be had for not much more than just the tires for 20/21's, buy the car with 20/21's and negotiate an extra set of 19/20's with your dealer as part of your purchase agreement. Try them both and sell the set you don't care for.
