Default Remote starter

Hi, I’ve ordered a new Carrera S and I’m asked my dealer if a remote starter is available through the Porsche apps. They offered me an aftermarket remote starter..... Some friends with Japanese or corean car have remote starter controlled by their apps. The new 992 is it really up to date in term of technologies or I’m misinformed

thanks for your help

There is no remote start in the Connect app and it does feel silly that it's not supported. You can check your tire pressures, oil level, trip log, lock/unlock doors, but no remote start. If it's available in other markets, I have to think that there's some lawyer reason that the US cars don't have remote start.

Prolonged idling after a cold startup is bad for engines.

But better 5 min of idling before ride when it’s -20C here in Canada!

A lot of DE (German) makes do not have remote start.

A quick google turned up this quote (from a post on Audi's reddit):
Two main reasons. First, it's illegal to have your car running in Germany without an operator behind the wheel. The second one is liability. Many people garage thier Audi's. Audi doesn't want to deal with any potential legal issues with a car remote starting inside someone's home. Not the strongest reasons but this is what they taught us at training.

Those are the same replies I got when inquiring about it years ago. First in Texas bc of heat on parking lots (different car then), then on Illinois bc of the frigid cold.

For 992 owners, at least I can tell that compared to the 991.2, the car warms up quickly and the seat heating is way better.

Now, If one insists, Viper makes remote start solutions. I'm not normally scared of voiding warranty, but the electrical rewiring involved gives me pause. Modern car electrics don't need external help to give issues. Anything that happens afterwards VW will blame the aftermarket work. Just my 2c.

Mercedes offers remote start in the United States. German marques didn't used to provide cupholders in their cars, because it wasn't legal in Germany to drink and drive -- anything.

Most likely it's something that's either added at the dealership, or at port in the US then (assuming it's law in germany).

It's on the builder. Caveat is that several models are mild hybrids, so I'm not sure if leans on that. Beemers also have it

One thing about the e-Hybrid models is the “preheat/pre-cool” feature offered through the Car Connect App. Like it or not, one day it will be available on the 911.

It's the part of the Mercedes Me app connectivity -- factory feature. You can also use it to pre-cool or pre-heat your car. My wife's "made in Germany" GLA has it.

I’d also add that as others have said, be sure to spec out heated seats and a heated steering wheel. I am in MN where it got to -30f last year and while it was cold, my Macan heated up pretty quickly and I’d assume the 911 is similar.

My dealer said no when I asked for an aftermarket option. Claimed warranty issues. Even if your dealer offers, I would not safely assume that Porsche would cover a warranty issue should it come up.

Mercedes, BMW and now Volkswagen now offer remote start via their smartphone apps. Every US, Japanese and Korean brand offer it as well. It is pretty common now.

It came standard on our Jeep Grand Cherokee and our MB GLS.

Not sure what is going on at Porsche.

Apparently, carjacking in your neck of the woods, is not a thing.

These OEM systems stop the engine the moment the door is open and/or car is unlocked. So, no one can just hop in and drive it away -- there's no risk of someone driving off with your car. Mercedes also shuts down automatically after 10 minutes so that your car isn't idling for an extended period.
