What percentage of people on this forum drove the 992 first before ordering?.. In that case, 97+% must be 'ballsy'.

I drove a GT3 & 991.2 that were in my ballpark $$.. After driving the 991.2 I ordered the 992. Test drove one about 2-3 weeks before my order locked and loved it! I’d be hard pressed to find anyone say they’d hate the 992 drivability after driving a 991.2. It’s nothing but improved IMO

*almost forgot. Also drove a Cayman & C7 Z06

With less horsepower? Even it were it would still be just a fast turd based on how it looks. If I just wanted a fast car there are many that are faster...looks are the more important than a 1/10th or two.

It’s a credit to Porsche and how well the 911 succeeds its previous generations. I don’t see how you would go wrong.

If ordering a 911 sight unseen is “ballsy”, I wonder what word would describe the 40k+ preorders on the C8

Not a lot faster...like miniscule infinitesimally faster...not sure the Ring time is faster if that matters to you...I recall GTS did 7:25--992 Carrera S 7:30 ?

But that said, I love the looks on the 992, it's a good evolution...the thing I would miss is shifting gears with PDK lever...I sometimes do it for variety...kind of like a nice cup of hot cocoa on a cold winter's night.

Not to bash the 992, but for me the 991 was already too big and didn't drive like my idea of how a sports car should drive. I was disappointed--not surprised, but disappointed--that the 992 was even bigger.

Once the 992 GT3s come out, I wonder if they will have the nub shifter...or something different, bigger, more traditional most likely.

Other than the 488, I have never test driven a car before buying it.. I guess I know what I like!

IMO being faster than 991.2 gen wasn't a consideration for me, guess I just expected it... what sold me was the exterior and interior in person coupled with the expected amazing driving experience (based off of 991)

touche and I agree with you, I use the shifter from time to time as well. But I use the paddles more often and no car is perfect. An example is each of my 3 991s had the most annoying, impossible to find rattles in the interior. If the 992 comes rattle free I will gladly keep my mouth shut about a shifter/not being able to shift through the gear selector/nubbin lol

FWIW I think spy shots have captured a 992 GT3 mule with what appeared to be a more traditional shifter, whether or not thats placeholder or will go to production

Sam - insightful comments, as always. You call the 991 interior "old," I would say it has a "patina" compared to the much more modern 992. I, for one, prefer the 5 analogue gauges (all of which are visible) in the 991 and I prefer being able to shift gears with the gear shifter. I am also not a fan of the 992 cupholder situation, either for the driver or the passenger. I am not saying the 991 interior is better than the 992 interior. I am saying it is better for me which is all that counts, at the end of the day.

Finally got to see and sit in a 992 at a launch event at my local dealer. First the car is beautiful so when I hear the word "turd" used to describe it I am confused.Every 911 had something that someone did not like from head lights to bumperettes to who knows what. I thought the layout and feel of the cabin for the short time I was in it was very nice and the quality of the materials a step up.

The nubbin for some reason did not bother me as much as I thought it would even though I like to use the shifter at times to shift my PDK. The cup holder is not a beautiful but more useful than the dangling cup holders of previous 911's that we all complained about. I have the dangling version in my TTS and I never put anything in them for fear of whatever is in them will end up all over my center console. I'm sure future generations will have some options to re-assort the center mass.

I did not drive it as i am not in the market as of yet. I will be looking to see what the TT series looks like and the GT3 Touring. But overall a very nice looking and layed out 911.

Thanks mate, just my opinion definitely not a fact or speaking for anyone else. For sure there are many others including yourself who prefer the 991 interior and I can respect that, your prerogative. Nice to have choices as the prior gens aren't going anywhere, but just wanted to share my thoughts as it was surprising and notable to me that my first thought was "this feels dated" when I climbed in my 991 to leave the dealership after sitting in the 992 for a bit. I didn't expect to feel that way as a diehard 991 guy

And being honest I agree re: ingenious 991 cupholder design, and would have liked a more traditional PDK shifter, but those are minor things that aren't deal breakers for me for the entire car. Overall I find more pros than cons with the 992 evolution personally

Well said, every gen has had some miscues or complaints although I will say 991.1 and 991.2 were just about perfect for their period IMO

I love the 991 cupholder design, especially on my 991.1 because my iPhone sits perfectly in the cupholder so I can have nav/music running and easily access it vs having to install an aftermarket phone mount. And when not needed you could masterfully tuck the cupholders back in the trim making it invisible, was slick design. But I agree a big gulp or coffee will sit better in the 992 cupholder (if you have MT you might be SOL)
