Currently our systems are not C.A.R.B compliant. Something that we are working on. That being said, our Catted systems will pass SMOG, its that pesky visual inspection that you need to work around

I remember when I lived in Maryland and had a few Gen 1 Vipers. When I took them for emissions testing they could not tell the cats were changed (or removed on 1 car) since they were in the sidesills, and since the tires/wheels were so wide they would waive the treadmill test since they were responsible for damage...those were the days.

If anyone is interested in a complimentary exhaust system for their 992, we are actively looking for owners to participate in thorough exhaust development on this platform. The three configurations we are looking for is any PSE equipped model, an S Non PSE model, and a Base Non PSE model.
We are located in Willow Grove, PA about 30 minutes outside of Philly. We will cover transportation costs if necessary. Please send me an email at johng@soulpp.com or give me a call at 484 883 6197 to discuss details. Thank you!
Best regards,
John Gaydos

Easy to prove in the 718. In the early models you could pull the driver side panel in the rear and disconnect the soundaktor device (or pull the fuse). In later models they moved the soundaktor device so you had to pull the 7amp fuse in the passenger rear fuse panel. That was electronically enhanced by using the firewall as a diaphragm. On top of that it sounded terrible and was, in my opinion, one of the leading causes of everyone crapping on the noise of the 718.
The 911s (and even the 981 GTS) are different. They had a tube that allowed engine noise into the passenger compartment. But it was all real noise, unlike the 718. Admittedly I have not looked for it, but I have not yet seen any sort of schematic or parts list that demonstrates the 992 is using electronically generated noise in the cabin. Again, not saying it isn't, but I would like to see proof.
Honestly, I don't care if it is running sound through the speakers. My BMW did that. I didn't know until I read it on the forums. Then I coded the sound enhancement off and drove it that way for a few weeks. The non-enhanced noise was quiet and a bit reedy at full tilt. So I turned it back on. Much better.
In my book I'm OK with it if the 992 is artificial. It sounds natural enough.

I’d need to see or read hard evidence before believing the 992 is pumping engine noise through the speakers. Until then..

The non-US cars have a particulate filter that dramatically reduces the PSE sound. That filter isn't included in the US version cars. I drove a 992 as well with PSE and it sounded better (say 50% better) than my GTS, and the GTS has less insulation to help amplify the noise.
They now have two sound symposers in the car, essentially sound tunnels from the engine compartment, the 991.2 only had 1.
Stock PSE will be tough to beat unless you put headers on, which will have its own challenges IMHO.

Fortunately/Unfortunately Porsche nailed it with the factory manifolds. We considered designing a new header, however the 992 uses a cast manifold design that is almost unbeatable. What's the old adage ? " If it ain't broke, don't fix it?"
Bolt on some new high flow cats or cat bypass (after we develop a tune) and let'r rip!

Porsche doesn't pump fake engine noise through the speakers like BMW. As shown above, they do channel engine sound into the cabin from the engine bay. Lexus does this too along with other manufacturers. It's real noise -- not a BMW MP3 file.
