Default 992 vs 991.2 Carrera S PDK gearing

Here is a comparison of 992 vs 991.2 Carrera S PDK gearing. The ratios are from Porsche documentation.

1st and 5th gears of the 992 are 5% shorter (ie, a ratio of 0.95), while 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears average 12% shorter (ie, about 0.88). These numbers take into account the differing final drive ratios and tire diameters.

IMO the shorter gearing will make the car more fun on the back roads.

An extra gear with shorter gearing is simply the number 1 reason why the 992 achieves "better numbers" and how it hides it's weight. The rest is a bunch of riff raff about turbos spinning in opposite directions along with "piezo injectors" which have proven to be troublesome on other platforms.

If the 991.2 was given these ratios it would automatically be quicker/faster in every way possible... Very wise to shorten 1st gear by a marginal amount which wont allow the car to roast the tires. Good for nailing those 0-60 times. Either way, you are right. The shorter gearing will definitely assist in making the car more springy.. Curious to see how the 992 base will perform given smaller turbos if it also has these gears.

992 shorter gears what?

Did you consider that rear wheels are 21" ?

for those not yet bored of reasons to not buy the new 992 because its not the old car...zzzzzzzzzz.
Personally I am liking the 992 and I am sure those who got the 991 when it was released loved it too but would have had to listen to as much ya-boo if social media had been as active on that time.

So my question: what are the optimal shift points for maximum acceleration with the 992 shorter gearing?

If torque falls off too quickly at higher revs with shorter gearing, it might be better to short shift. But this does not appear to be the case for the 992.

This chart shows engine power versus speed in each gear. Engine power approaching redline is always larger than power in the next higher gear at the same speed.

It's always best to shift at redline in all 991 and 992.

Maybe not. Here is a chart for my 991.2 C2 MT. The loss of torque at higher revs is relatively larger. Short shifting 4th and 5th appears better.

Off hand... does anyone know why the TT/S cars have a 7k redline vs the C2/4/S 7.5k redline?

Thanks. I imagined it would be higher with the GT3 NA 4.0 up at 9k. I didn’t know displacement in a TT engine would reduce the redline.
