Default A hater's driving impressions.

Those of you who haven't put me on ignore know that I'm one of the earliest and most vicious critics of the 992. Long story short, today I rented a speed yellow 992 C2S for the day at Porsche museum and drove it a few hundred Kms both on Autobahn and off (the epic schwaebische country switchbacks with hairpins and ****, with perfect pavement and 100kmh limits and next to no traffic should have their own forum. Not thread - forum).

The gist of it:
1) after spending a day in it the car continues to look huge and bloated to me. Looks like a pregnant cow.
2) all the things everybody hates really do suck. The nubbin, the side gauges unreadable because steering wheel, the bug fat flat piano black console, etc.

On the other hand:

3) How does the C2S drive? Oh sweet Lord. What a fantastic car. Unreal. Turbo lag my ***. In sport+, you feather the throttle and it jumps forward.

Planted and incredibly tight at Autobahn speeds. Last month I rented an M5 and got it to 163mph. Great car but I'd take the C2S any day of the week.

Telepathic steering. Quick on its feet around the twisties. A car that big has no business feeling that nimble. How the hell did they do it. I wish I didn't have to give it back

So in summary the looks really don't do it for me, but there's no question that dynamically it's an excellent car.

Indeed the 21" rear 20"front make it more better handling as a mid engine do than the rear engine , but I prefer undesteer/oversteer than a neutered mid engine-like 911, guess it s time for me to buy a singer or classic

Nice honest review - thank you.

Many would agree with your negatives (nubbin, occluded gauges, etc) and for some they will be deal-killers and for others like me not great but not a big deal either. And of course some of us totally love the gravid bovine look...
I can decide for myself how I feel about the interior and exterior from pictures and videos and honestly couldn't care less about other peoples' opinions in these areas.
But I really appreciate the driving impressions - an actual test drive is still a month away for those of us in the USA.

What handling options was the car equipped with? PDCC, PASM, tires...?

Thanks for the review! I’m picking up 992 at the factory in October... any direction on where these switchbacks are would be greatly appreciated!!! Sounds awesome.

Man, I hope the lag is not terribly noticible. This is why I am trading in my E63 for the 992. In normal mode in city traffic, the lag is annoying. I plan on daily driving the car. I guess I'll find out in a few weeks.

Rick, quick question. What is your comparison based on, a 997 or the 991? Thank you.

Spot on...

I knew it would be great to drive from day one.

but looks and those little things is why I opted for the last of the 991.2

Sounds like one needs to option it up to try and hide some of the bad points looks-wise...colors, sport design, etc.

Porsche rarely lets down as it relates to the cars capabilities. For me the biggest letdown was the major step away from form following function on the interior. The big plastic/glass (whatever it is) console that hides all the controls is truly a distraction and I can’t see how you could use it without taking your eyes off the road for more than the normal amount to find the button you want. It’s a trend we are seeing across many of the luxury cars including Land Rover with the Velar and of course Tesla which started the trend.

On the plus side, that big expanse of smooth plastic will be easy to clean, perhaps that is the function?

Never drove a 991. 997 is the most recent 911 generation I've driven.

Apples to oranges, but compared to other turbo cars I've driven (M5, 996TT, Alfa 4C) the 992's lag was the least noticeable, at least in sport+ mode. Normal mode, maybe a hair, but really just a hair.

Good question. I didn't ask or check. I'll send them an email and ask if they can provide the info. Here's a couple of pictures.

Looks to have PDCC, they moved that button under the screen on the right side (one of the toggles).
