Default Interior Leather Options - Considerations for long term value?

Looking for a little help or experience from the community as i am about to order my first 911. I've had a 718 for a while and love it, but having driven a few 911's at the experience center in Atlanta, I'm ready to upgrade.

If money was no object, i'd just get the full leather interior, but i'm trying to be smart about this first purchase. I plan on getting a nicely equipped 992 Base and it's pricing out between 116 - 121 depending on which interior i spec.

So, what is the return on value between doing the standard interior, the leather package, or the full leather interior?

Since this is a base model, am i better of just going with the standard interior as when i upgrade in 3-4 years the things that increase sales price will be mainly on things like premium pkg, sport chrono, exhaust? Or, if i go full leather and do a slightly nicer interior, will i see some return on that $4k investment?

I plan on driving the car 2.5 seasons a year as a daily driver. No tracking or the like...

Thoughts?

I can’t comment as to the return on investment for a full leather interior. My only thought is that anyone who custom orders a modern Porsche without full leather is either a lunatic or blind.

I am pretty sure this is absolutely a personal preference thing. But I would personally say full leather is a must if I buy another Porsche.

I have seen the full leather in person and did not think it provides any value nor thought it makes a better ambience. Honestly I thought the full leather on my bimmer looked better. Not thinking of ordering it in my car. Hope I’m no lunatic

Do leather package, but not full leather. The standard package can detract many buyers. Throw that money towards performance options. Will return more at resale.

I agree, FWIW.
Also, as long as we are on the subject of resale, "S" models will always command a meaningful premium over a base car. Spend some time comparing the prices of late-model, previously-owned Porsches and I'm sure you'll quickly realize an "S" will return as least 50%, if not a lot more, of the additional ($15k) MSRP cost. It makes the initial cost of an "S" seem almost reasonable, particular when you compare that cost with the cost of various options, such as full leather.

My first 991.2 C2 didnt have leather package but new one does...........Black leather dash and doors with red stitching looks great but not sure I'd order it again. I know options like that depreciate rapidly but if there were two cars priced similarly I'd take the one with Leather. Smells so nice.

I had a 718 with the leather/sport-tex package, which is essentially full leather. Looks amazing, makes the car feel like a significantly more expensive car than it is. It's a huge upgrade as far as how the interior looks and feels. That said, you will get zero return on it if you're intending to trade-in. Options hold essentially zero value for dealerships. That said, I traded my car in for 42k, the dealer had it listed for 54k and sold it in less than 10 days, so I think the buy appreciates how nice it is, even if you don't get any monetary value out of it. I don't think you get any monetary value out of any options, really. Maybe it's different for track focused cars, but on a base 911, I think most buyers don't really care about performance options.

I also upgraded, to a 911T, which is an incredibly great car, but as a daily driver sitting in traffic, I've used the Sport Chrono pack maybe 5-6 times in 5 months of ownership, unless you count the "invisible" improvements like the engine mounts. Honestly, on a day to day basis you're going to appreciate the full leather interior more than almost anything else. That said, I love the Sports Exhaust, and it's an incredibly easy option to use every day.

buy the car for you with the options you like... unless you plan on selling after only 2 years or so, but then you will lose out big time anyway. I think these cars are not rational decisions anyway, so might as well get it the way you like, and keep it for a while.

Every drive you will sit in, and see the interior. Keep that in mind.

If I were you, I'd drive the 718 for another 2-3-4 years, save up, and buy the 992.2 car of your dreams.

Thanks for the advice -

After going to the dealer and looking at cars that have the 3 different options, i've decided on two things:

1 - Full leather does seem to be worth it. Especially since...
2- I'm going to get a Carrera S instead of the base model and the only options are standard interior or full leather.

The full leather really does make the car quite luxurious and after talking and researching, to best protect resale value, the base isn't the best option anyway.

Thanks again - can't wait to update with my build.

(Also, sold my 718 earlier today, so now i just have to wait until spring here in Michigan to have something new...)

Do the dealers in Michigan already have 992s ? How were you able to compare these options?

You could have easily gotten $48k private. Did you trade for tax reasons?

OP:
As others have said; options don't carry trade value. If you did 100% base I think you'd have a harder time re-selling. People at least would expect the basics (stuff porsche shouldn't nickel and dime you for, but do).
