Wireless CarPlay
For our rennlisters that took delivery on a 992. There's a rumor that the Macan 2020 is coming with wireless CarPlay and the 992 maybe.
Anyone confirms or denies that?
Thanks!

Seems like it will be a software update. The new carplay in ios 13 looks like a good upgrade.

Wireless CarPlay has come out on the macan. I don’t think that is a rumor. A few posters in the macan forums have mentioned they like it, and my dealer mentioned they recently had macans come in with wireless. Supposedly one customer traded in their week old macan for a new one just for the wireless.
my dealer also said wireless is coming to the 992. I just ordered my 992 last week, and asked him to look into it. He recited some of his dealer material over the phone and seemed to be convinced it is coming to the 992. Sometimes the dealers will just tell you what you want to hear, so I’m skeptical.
Now ive tried to research this a lot myself (I tried to post this question last week, but as a newbie I guess I’m unable to start a new thread). In two reviews I read online, wireless CarPlay was mentioned. Unusually, both these reviews were in early “ride along” articles that were done before the official unveiling with journalists given early access in preproduction prototypes. None of the newer reviews or anything I’ve seen in posts from early European owners have mentioned it.
i understand wireless CarPlay has been around for a while, bmw, Toyota, Honda all have it. It has been available in aftermarket units even longer. It is not something that can be added with a software update, although the new iOS 13 will add newer functionality to all CarPlay enabled cars, wireless or not. I believe the phone connects to the wireless head unit via WiFi not Bluetooth so it requires different hardware.
I second the the call for any 992 owners to pipe in!!! Does your car have wireless?!?

Is this article / review of the 992 tech inaccurate?
https://autoweek.com/article/technol...slate-advances
"Keeping up the theme, the main touchscreen in the center console increases to 10.9 inches, from 7, which is now center stage for what Porsche calls Advanced Cockpit. This includes wireless Apple CarPlay, USB, SD and Wi-Fi interfaces and all sorts of “connected” systems to listen to online radio and perform Google searches on navigation maps. You know, sports car stuff."

I hope not! That is now the third article I’ve seen mention wireless.
But it seems to me to be a big selling point that has not really been mentioned in any Porsche literature. They really tried to sell the old and fairly useless(IMO)“thermal cameras” or night vision thing so you can see deer at night. That is a 10 year old option on S class and A8. It was one of the major marketing points when the 992 was announced. I think wireless CarPlay is a bigger selling point, so it is curious it’s not mentioned(by Porsche). Perhaps they were not sure it would be ready for launch so it was not emphasized? I’m just looking for confirmation from an actual 992 owner that it is there....

I think you can rest assured "wireless" is equipped. My wife's X5 is an '18, but was actually built at the end of '17 and includes wireless carplay. It would blow my mind if Porsche was still struggling with basic standard wireless tech for 2020 models. Then again, I'm still irritated the 992 doesn't offer Heads Up Display!

This is really disappointing. How can a brand like Porsche not offer these kind of things... Especially considering that in some models you pay well over $1000 to get Apple CarPlay. My 718 doesn’t support wireless connectivity and it seems my 992 will be going down the same path.

Wireless Apple CarPlay is standard equipment on all 992’s in the US.
Wireless Apple CarPlay is optional on the 2019/20 Macan. If you order Apple CarPlay, it’s now wireless but it does drain the battery quite a bit. The “Smartphone Compartment” option on 2020 Macan now comes with inductive charging which helps with this issue.
Hope this helps.
