I just had my first test drive of the 992 and the ONE thing that totally annoyed me was the Start/Stop feature! Someone at Porsche forgot to dial down the sensitivity because this thing was all over the place. I had the engine turning off on me while slowing down to make a sharp turn, I kid you not. Isn't it suppoed to kick in at a dead stop like at traffic lights or in congestion? I fail to see how they could get this wrong. Or am I missing something? I really hope its a glitch and someone will come up with a way to fix it.
There's a button to turn it off. The only reason they add it is to help with the emissions testing. I've always disabled start stop in my cars. It saves you a tiny amount of fuel.
On my 911.1 its the only button that illuminates for OFF. And you never have to touch it once depressed to turn the feature off. Not touched it since I drove off the dealers lot.
Perhaps I should clarify. I am aware it's a feature that can be turned off and yes you can even assign one of the toggle switches to do this for you without having to go deep into the menu. It does need to be turned off every time though, can't turn it off permanently.
My issue is not with the feature but the way it has been implemented. My BMW M5 is a DD and I use the auto start/stop all the time as it makes sense to conserve gas while you are stuck in London traffic or at a traffic light. BUT! Not once has my engine turned off while making a slow turn! It's not supposed to turn off while your speed is under 5 mph, is it? The technology is supposed to kick in when you reach a standstill. So while I'm driving this historically famous sports car the engine keeps cutting off every time I slow down! Totally messed up the driving experience. I would like to use the feature but not the way it is right now. I guess I know what one toggle switch will be doing in my car!
Does my issue with this make a bit more sense now?
Sounds like a software problem. I'm sure its fixable with a patch. But I agree, the engine should not turn off under those conditions. That's dangerous.
It sounds like the 992 is equipped with a coasting mode as part of the stop/start feature. Check the owners manual to see what it says and please let us know.

I just went for a test drive. Let's see what the current owners have to say. I'm curious to know if they have noticed this as well.
Sounds just like my cayenne. The 991.1 you could turn off and forget it. German law (allegedly) caught up to that and from the .2 on it will forget its offness every time you start.
The cayenne 958.2 shuts down before you finish stopping, if you slow down to turn and cross traffic, you learn quickly to keep moving the steering wheel even for a bit so it doesn't kick in, but it's annoying and dangerous.

If they didn't fix it on the Cayenne then I guess it's safe to assume they won't fix it on the 992.
As an owner, this behaviour is normal. As mentioned earlier it is a coast mode. I have never had it cut the engine going round a corner though. Just engages as you are slowing to a halt.

On the cayenne it shuts down (0 rpm), steering loses assist. The car "predicts" you're about to stop and does that beforehand. That's not coasting at all. Annoying and dangerous.
