Part of the sound difference could be particle filter. Not sure if the whistle is sound from brakes, electric propulsion, turbo, or what...

So, the whistle is either OPF, ITBs, or something else. I'd have guessed OPF but what is most confusing to me is the whistle seems to be loudest when the car is traveling towards the camera. When the car is travelling away and the exhaust is pointing at the camera, the sound nearly disappears.
I don't think it really sounds like a supercharger but wouldn't that be interesting? Better throttle response and less restricted exhaust note vs. a turbo system? I'd rather have a NA engine but if Porsche decided that a supercharger could be made efficient (maybe a lightweight hybrid assist?) and provide the best of both the NA (emotion) and Forced Induction (power) worlds, I think I'd be game.
Whatever it is, I hope the sound doesn't make it into production or can be fixed easily in the aftermarket. I haven't warmed up to the latest McLaren's whistling exhaust note and probably never will. I think it detracts from those cars unfortunately.
