992 Nurburgring Lap Time Thread
Thought I would begin a thread for the 992 Nurburgring lap times for the various models. That being said, I have not seen any official times released yet. I have seen this snippet in a recent 992 autoblog deep dive but no time was given. How much do you guys/gals think the 992 S will surpass the previous iteration. More interestingly, will it surpass the 991.2 GTS or will the GTSs superior aero keep it at bay?

Thanks for posting.
So the 991.2 GTS is still faster around the ring vs a 992 S.. That's been confirmed already.
However.. These 0-60 times are interesting.. It's well known that Porsche underrated the 0-60 times on the 991.2. There have been cases of 991.2 C2S and GTS reaching 60mph in 3.1 seconds... 3.1 is fast but surely not consistent in the 991.2 RWD. Even in stock form my 991.2 GTS would spin on the launch depending on tire temperature and pavement surface. Either the car launched so well that the blood would move to the back of my head and make me dizzy or it would simply spin.
Seems like Porsche stuffed that 21" rear back there for good reason.. The 991 RS ran this setup and it's been adopted in the 992. The 21" rear as stated above is surely the "best setup". The extra weight and diameter of the tire definitely increases traction making the 992 superior to the 991 in terms of launching for 0-60.
I'm certainly going to adopt this method onto my 991.2 GTS and also put a 21" rear.

I thought we were given a time? I remember it coming up in another thread and noting that the difference between 992 and 991.2 S Ring times was a bit greater than the difference between documented 991.1 and 991.2 S times (7:37.9 vs 7:34). The 991.2 GTS proved fairly significant over the 991.2 S (10 seconds).

This is the info that I have found from Motor Authority:
”Speaking on Thursday during a drive event for the redesigned 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S, a Porsche spokesman revealed the car will lap the Nürburgring in a time of 7:25, which makes it a full 5.0 seconds faster than the previous-generation Carrera S.”

Kinda starts to show how Porsche is really pushing the limits with these daily streets cars. Previous new generation Carrera S’s were often faster around tracks than most anything in the last generation 911’s stable. The 991.1 Carrera S obliterated the 997.2 GTS around any track and probably would hold its own with a 997.2 GT3 4.0 (I think it even put up better numbers in several cases thanks to the PDK and chassis workings). The 991.2 GTS holding a faster time than the 992 S track time/s, granted that would hold with the same tires, is a big change from how some prior new-gen S’s performed compared to their predecessors.

Time comparisons between two cars under reasonably controlled conditions, that is, with equivalent drivers, equipment (especially tires), under similar environmental conditions are the only ones that matter.

There are a couple of 992 laps edging out the 991.2 GTS at this track:

Doesn't Christian Gebhart tend to run a little slower than the factory drivers. He is good for comparing his on times in different cars, but not so much with other drivers or factory drivers.

The 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 beat the 991 GT3 RS and TOASTED the 991.1 S by over 6 seconds at Laguna Seca.

The 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 was faster than the 992 and the 991.2 GTS here:

The regular 997.2 GT3 RS (non 4.0) posted 7:33 compared to the 991.1 S's 7:37.9 and the 991.2's 7:34 at Ring.

What I can’t figure out is where/what is the official Porsche factory Nurburgring time? The 7:25 was unofficial but surely if they could score that time, they’d have uploaded an official video of it. Is it possible they can’t hit 7:25 and that’s why there is no Porsche factory video yet? Or maybe it’s out there and I’ve missed it.
