Hard to tell from the configurator, but does the aluminum version improve the look/size at all?
The aluminum is taller, about an inch. Looks are subjective. I did not order it because I thought the upcharge was personally not worth it. Others justified it.

I’m sure there are plenty of guys who would pay dearly for an extra inch. I’m just not one of them.
Don’t have a 992 but I’m currently lusting after a 992 TTS. I have sat in a few 992’s and did feel the interior seemed well done and upgraded. Only spent a small amount of time in the cabin so I’ve not experienced the loss of the analog gauges.
As far as the gear selector controversy my opinion is similar to one above. I am on Porsche 911 #14. Most were manuals and the TTS is my 1st 911 PDK. One thing that has always been part of the Porsche 911 cars mystique is that through out all the many generations a 911 stayed a 911, always with distinct 911 design touches. Even the 996 with their light configuration looked like a 911.
So when getting to the interior the cars have kept their somewhat uncluttered look with great visibility. All parts seemed to be minimally used only where need and had a task. The shifter even in PDK form harkened back to Porsche MT and racing. So does the nubbin in a more modern Porsche interior fit the new look, most likely. Does it harken back to Porsches of past and is it usable for those of us who do like to use the lever to shift, not really.
It just looks like it’s a part that was left to be designed by someone else in the VW Group. But it’s what we got now if and until Porsche is listening and thinks it’s worth addressing. But the 992 from what I’ve read and seen is a fantastic 911 so how big a deal is a small gear selector.
For now I’ll stick with my “old” PDK lever.
I've also seen a review by someone on youtube which stated that it's no better with the MT as if you place a drink in the cup holder it's in the way and you end up knocking the drink over as you shift.
I would have preferred the switches from the 991s to having to try and hit something on a screen, buried in a menu. The shaver is an anomaly to anything Porsche (but then again remember I, and no doubt many of you) howled in horror when the 924 and 928 came out as heretical contraptions, some no doubt still do. Still, IMHO more thought could have been spent on an alternative (like a redesign to the Macan rear window, a universal magnet for every piece of dirt in the universe, as well as the sun visor, reverse lights and camera constantly full of ice or dirt). Now if I could only replace the shaver for my Hurst T handle from my 68 Roadrunner...
My car (2021 base Carrera) is my first new Porsche and first 911. I just took delivery of it a few weeks ago. I am super pleased with the car overall. I personally love the door handles. I don’t dislike the nubbin, but I have to say I agree with those that liked the pdk shifter like the 991. I would prefer that as my BMW M3 had it and my vow git has it and I do use the shifter sometimes. So it is not a gripe at the moment, as I am in the “honeymoon” stage, but maybe after the newness wears off, it will be a gripe of mine. My only slight gripe at this time is the rear tire noise is louder than I hoped for. I already think I may get some dynamat to place over the rear wheel s summer. Did I mention I love this car?
How can you make a statement like that, if seemingly, per your name & car list, you are currently not in a 992....
Fair. I have obsessed over the 992 while waiting for the GTS to become order-able. The homelink and cupholders are easy to determine as a step back, even if not confirmed by numerous complaints.
The comfort access complexity isn't something I'd like over the 991.2 handles, esp given the substantial amount of criticism in this forum, but you're right, I haven't lived with it yet, and so perhaps I'll wind up loving it.
It doesn’t get mentioned much but I did like the placement and design of the window switches on the 997. Close to hand, you could flick them with your little finger while holding the wheel. The one on the 992 are too far back, I literally have to swivel in the seat to be able to use them.
