To buy or not to buy (992)

Definitely dont buy 1st yr models. You'll be sorry. 2nd year is a bit iffy.
Contrary to opinions, ppl are not lining up to buy 992.
Huge disappointment on many fronts. "Shaver" **** is reason enough and it will be replaced 2nd or 3rd year for sure.

OK.. thanks again all for the thoughts. I think I've decide to go buy a second hand 991 (e.g. 2017). You can get an S of this vintage for around USD 100K, which is ~40K less than the 991.2 GTS (as specified). I stay on the wait-list for the 992, don't take as much of a depreciation hit and get some enjoyment over the next 1-2 years while also maintaining some anticipation for the 992. There's still a pang of regret because I really, really wanted that sweet GTS, but on balance I think it's the right move for me.

If you want a 992 S or 4S in PDK, you are pretty safe picking up a 2020 model. Sure there will be new models and options available in 2021 and beyond, but unless you are compromising now, it’s unlikely you will regret your decision in the next couple of years.
I do agree that we may see some improvements to design elements such as the gear selector and rear brake light design, but those are more likely to be changes when we get the 992.2. I can’t remember a time when Porsche made major design changes to existing elements prior to a full facelift.

The only reason I don’t buy first year is because the model I want is not a first year option. However, there is little to suggest that other than additional models and options that there is any reason to avoid first year cars.

Three Wheelin'
There are several benefits to buying a 992 now:
1) You will have an up to date car for 6 years not just three of you buy the mod cycle light refresh which isn't a new model.
2) The flattest depreciation curve for a new car is when a new model first launches. After that it gets steeper.
3) The second or third year of production are not as good as the first year because you will take a steeper hit in 1-2 years when they do the 992.2

I agree. We always buy our cars new and keep 5 years. I despise driving a non current car. I just took delivery of my new 2019 GMC Sierra SLT truck and the wife’s 2016 Yukon Denali will be upgraded this fall when the redesigned 2020 Yukon Denali comes out.

Turns out this whole thread was pointless, because when the car rolled off the truck and the dealer convinced me to come down and "just have a look".. well...
