Default 992 cockpit comparison to Panamera & Taycan

Having seen plenty of reviewers mention the fact that the two outside tachs are hardly readable at all, makes me wonder, why Porsche didn't use the staggered layout of tachs as seen in the Panamera to save space? At least in theory, this COULD be solved with a GUI tweak in the future. (Won't hold my breath for that one though...)

Because they wanted to replicate the horizontal design of the early cars until the 993 gen, just didn't go far enough with spacing them out (plus the modern wheels are generally thicker anyway). Don't know if this will even be such a problem in day to day use though.

They were going for the classic 911 look:

The last one is 991.2, obviously.

The Panemera looks much nicer than the 992 4 separate circles without a notch.

Agreed. I like the Panamera and the Cayenne cockpit. If my choice was for them to homogenize the three vehicles cockpits and make them very similar, or for the new hot mess; I’d choose the former.

The ideal choice would have been integrating the new large center screen and the new tubes into 991.2 existing cockpit. Keeping the best of the new and the best of the previous generation. They've made some good choices with interior leathers, colours and available deviated stitching in the 992 (the tobacco colored leather with chalk stitching is stunning).

Instead we ended up with blank black plastic, and a nubbin. Such a wasted opportunity.

The classic-inspired dash is nice, but I wish they'd also be inspired to get rid of the gigantic center console. It seems this gets bigger and bigger with every generation, encroaching further into the space where knees should be.

That is not the Taycan cockpit. That is the Mission E. The Taycan one is more in line with the others but obviously without the rev counter. The spy shots I have seen show that there is some sort of dash canopy over the floating display unlike in the concept. Also the horizontal dash and nav unit are similar to panamera. It doesn't have 4 displays but only 2 in the spy shots.
