What is the difference between 991.2 Turbos and 992s in the actual Turbo models
Depending on what you're looking for? I just went from a 991.2 Turbo which I loved to a 992.1. I have had several 991.1's and one 991.2 and I thought the jump at the time to the 991.2 was well worth it for CarPlay etc. Now the jump to the 992 is a totally different animal in my opinion. It's a bigger interior, more comfortable, and I like everything about it more. Technology is way ahead of the 991.2 and mainly just the overall experience of driving it on the weekends is better to me. Now, I will say it's almost too good and a bit boring as Turbos have always been. The 991.2 is a rawer car even though great and not a GT3 vs the 992. Probably more fun to drive if you drive it like you are supposed too honestly. I catch myself on a drive in the 992 and thinking to myself this car is just too nice, and you forget you're in a Turbo. I never track so I can't speak to how it is on the track, but I think it boils down to your purpose. If you want a rocket that is extremely comfortable and capable of everyday driving the 992 is your answer. If you want more of the purist experience, I will say, go with the 991.2 and save 50k you will be happy it's a great platform.
Thanks for your response, I too just parted with a 991.2. Agree 91 was a bit more raw but I have some remorse only because the 91 was my first Turbo variant and I did a bunch of custom bits on it, I had a 17 4s 3.0 before. Its taking me a few weeks to start to love the 92, Saturday ripping around its started to win me over. Power is effortless and seems to come on earlier and it seems smoother than the 91 I had with the DSC.
Pic of the 991, Hard to look at it now
I might disagree. I have two 991.2 Turbo S’s and one 992.1 Turbo S. I am a bit of a Luddite and LOVE the earlier car. It FEELS smaller, more nearly analog. Difference in performance is negligible. Also, have had more problems with the newer car - complex electronics, throwing faults, battery issues. The newer car cycles through its checks even when it is not driven, which kills the battery.
But the reality is that it kicks *** on track as well. If you watch that car, wow video where they compare the GT three and the turbo S around the track. Both the race car driver and a regular person are faster than the turbo S on that particular track. I realize that would not be the case in every situation. But it still says a great deal about the turbo S cars capability in general.
and then there is this review as well. It is one of my favorites.
I find the 991.2 turbo s a nicer car to own personally. I'd not have swapped that red cab no way. 992 is a bit faster, better motor and tech but cheaper VW group interior lets it down for me. Last 911 designed by Porsche alone and simplicity with quality of materials used as good as a Bentley. 991 with EP2 sounds better too. Just to add when ever mine in for servicing Porsche have lent me a 992 to see how I like it as theyve asked to buy mine back many times. Plan to use it every day as long as ice cars allowed. I am now 43. Bought new when I was 35.
I had 3 991 Turbos (991.1 Turbo, 991.2 Turbo S and 991.2 Turbo S with OEM aerokit and aftermarket intercoolers, full exhaust system and tune) and one 992 Turbo S with sport suspension and aerokit. IMO, 992 is better in every way except 1) gearbox is slower and has some odd lags, not too bad but slightly worse (there is 1 more gear, but I'd rather have the responsiveness); 2) turbo lag did not improve, and even got worse in some low-rev low-load situations. Everything else got better - steering, brakes (especially brake feel - it's the best I felt on any road-legal car with ABS), engine noise, interior noise, handling, comfort. I even prefer the new interior - the matte leather is less like rubber compared to 991.2, and matte carbon looks much nicer. It also has more small touches differentiating it from other 992 models. It's probably my favourite Porsche of all time. I only sold it because between GT3 RS and Taycan it became redundant, and kids no longer fit in the back.

Not gonna lie Im struggling right now. Im hoping I get more in love with the 992, didn't realize how much I did love the 991. Not sure what it is, perhaps Im still not dialed in on the 92. Breaks are noticeably better in feel, 991 I would tell people only use your toe no full foot on the brake or were getting ripped forward in the seat. Engine noise the 91 had a Europipe exhaust and it was the perfect mix of sound and tone but no valve option which I think is a must. Taking me a bit to used to the longer nose, not sure where it is at times.
Well, I got RS for that. Turbo was unique in a sense that it's a full-on sportscar experience with rear seats. With rear seats out of the picture, RS replaces the Turbo for most of good weather driving (the roads are good enough for it here).
