Debating from Turbo vs turbo S - QUESTION!
Hi guys, I am new here. I am looking at buying either a 2003 911 TURBO or Turbo S 911. I am moving from a Lambo Evo Spyder into possibly one of these. My question is, I DO want to swap out exhaust/cats etc so it has a more aggressive sound and can hear the turbos (main reason im looking at this car - always wanted to drive a car with a Turbo). Would there be a significant sound difference between the 2? There are only 2 Turbo S's for sale, vs TURBO has a few more options.
WOULD LOVE YOUR EXPERIENCE/ADVICE.

Burning Brakes
Might want to ask here: 996 Turbo Forum
That would cover a 2003 TT or TTS that you are looking at. Not discounting what @eclou said, at all, as he is very educated on this stuff.

Weird - the Turbo S is MUCH more common than the straight turbo. . . and generally my experience is that the Turbos S is a better value when purchasing. Yes, the straight turbo can be mod'd to nearly identical performance, but typically the lack all the upgrades that the Turbo S have. For me, I wouldn't want a TTS without CL wheels, PCCBs, 18 ways w/ ventilation and full leather and carbon roof. . .If you are looking for a stripper spec, then the Turbo might be a good option, but it doesn't seem like there is a big difference in price in the used market between the Turbo S and the straight Turbo, and there are WAY more Ss available. . .

ORIGINAL POST SHOULD SAY 2023 - not 2003
As for availaiblity...in Canada where I am - not many S available at all - LIKE 2 only Turbo S's... and I am near Toronto. The price diff is around $30k in used market. from Turbo vs Turbo S

Did you mean a 2003 or 2023?
Given that you just came from an Evo spider I’m assuming you meant the newer car.
if so, I would definitely go with a turbo S spec.

Janko Lind had a pretty nice review on the turbo if you’re interested in reviewing. I chose to go with the 2024 turbo rather than a turbo S. Did have both allocations to choose from. My rational was that I did not want the PDCC, nor did I want PCCB. I am in possession of my turbo and don’t think I will ever be able to wring all the performance out of it on the roads that I drive. I will never track. I saved about $30,000 and went for the turbo.
my view of these cars is identical to what was presented by Janko Lind.

I personally would pay the difference for the carbon ceramic brakes alone, the steel brakes work good, but the mess and added stopping power when hot at high speed does it for me alone, and I always add a lot of power to my cars so to me it was an easy choice, to me the CCB's are one of the best parts of the car

Tons of TTS for sale in Canada, lots.
My friend has a nice spec for sale $320k.
PCCB are awesome, no dust and stop amazing.

While the Turbo S certainly is the more powerful one, my experience with both cars suggests that the regular Turbo may be more responsive (less turbo lag?). This is based on pure seat-of-pants feel. Has anyone else come to a similar conclusion?

No lag in my turbo - but still in break-in period.

you will be happy with either.
I didnt want PDCC or PCCB for Canadian roads 4 seasons.
TT pulls hard stock. I ran a 10.5 which hangs with plenty of lambos, R8s and ferraris. It is a beast with a tune. Your pick.
Without at badge..all but enthusiasts would spot or feel the difference.

It's basically the same car. The Turbo S has a bunch of options that come standard that you have to spec on the Turbo, but you can get all of the Turbo S options on the Turbo.
The only difference outside of some options is the size of the turbochargers. You can upgrade these aftermarket if you want, and if you do the upgrade to the Turbo S and the Turbo you should end up with the same exactly final result.

Coming in from a Lamborghini Spyder and you want some exhaust improvement in a Turbo/S? = get some high flow cats. Even the stock Sport exhaust sounds great with butterflies open and 200 cats. Like others on this thread said… get a tune. These cars mod really well.
