Carbon fiber wrap
I bought a dolomite silver 992 turbo s without sports design package or external carbon fiber and am getting it ppf protected. I’m thinking of covering the roof, painted side mirror casings and rear spoiler in a gloss black 2x2 twill carbon fiber wrap. Plan to leave the Matt black plastic exterior parts unpainted for now. Anybody done this, will it look acceptable or am I speaking heresy? All opinions welcome.

Please don’t wrap your Porsche with fake CF wrap.
do gloss piano black.

Most people will be critical of a faux CF wrap.

If you do it use a product like STEK carbon fiber wrap, was at a show and there was a light gray tts with the roof wraapped and then clear wrapped, it looked outstanding, there were several factory carbon fiber roofs as well, and even one of the guys I know that has a factory cf roof said it looked outstanding. Personally I would want real CF

while the sweetness of the new look might entice anyone, i'd think any wrap will eventually reveal itself with whatever awkward characteristics identify it - unless you just absolutely gotta have it.... keep it real

Speaking of which. Anyone know what it would entail to install a CF roof? Would the windshield have to come off? Hypothetically this would be a slick top.

The Porsche technical document doesn't mention removing the glass - I've done is twice now, but both times windows were out. I don't think it's necessary to remove the glass - just easier to do it that way. The Porsche technical document does into great detail on the steps to use a string knife to cut the adhesives around the perimeter. Basically, there are 3 nuts, and glue - that's it.

BTW, if anyone is interested, I have 2 perfect condition OEM carbon roof panels - both have XM antenna cutouts. Will sell at a substantial discount to factory pricing . . . these can be installed on any 992 platform - totally worth it to do a sunroof delete! It's incredible how much the sunroof weighs - my guess is around 50 lbs with all the glass, motors, etc. HEAVY!

You should really check with a good body shop - I don't really think it should cost that much to install the real-deal carbon roof, and there are several available, both on ebay, and from me.

It'll be frowned upon by some here but fck them. It's your car do what you want. Here are my thoughts. CF vinyl sucks period. Haven't seen any that looked real. CF PPF on the other hand is indistinguishable. Use that instead. And you should just buy the real CF caps. You can get a really good price on OEM ones if you look around.

that looks great, I don’t see how you could easily tell that it is not CF. What ppf manufacturer did you use?
I feel that the “real” parts are unreasonably expensive for just cosmetic upgrades. They seem to put a price premium on them, as compared to less expensive cars, for similar products. Side mirrors $3K, rear wing $5K at DB Carbon.

But yea, the prices for CF parts for cars above 100k are egregiously greedy. OTOH look so good.

You can get a nice, used OEM carbon roof for under $5,000 - probably $1500 to install - maybe a little more, but then you have the OEM setup. I just received a set of China carbon mirror caps to evaluate - they were $340 delivered and look really nice. I haven't installed them yet to test out fittement, but they look nearly identical to the factory ones, and for a low-cost option, these might be worth a try . . .https://www.ebay.com/itm/224797807660
BTW, I made a best offer of $300 and they accepted w/ $40 shipping.
