Default Modification for phone charging placement

So I decided, after finding out the plastic piece was about $75, I would just drill a hole in the plastic and route the wire into the arm rest for a clean install. Ended up pretty easy and if/when I sell it, I will replace the plastic piece if necessary.

Finished.

With the console apart.

I guess I don’t understand the need for the mod. You have usb-c in the center console for charging and phone integration with pcm so the apps are loaded in pcm.

I understand what you’re saying Engro. When I get into the car, I’m usually holding my phone and I want to put it down somewhere. It’s really convenient. I just drop it there and it sticks and it’s charging. I understand you could just throw it in the armrest or put it where your cupholder is.
I use the cupholder sometimes for water and I don’t want to put it in there. And I find it a pain in the *** to put it in the armrest area. Also, if you wanted to charge while it’s in there, you have to make sure it hits the MagSafe charger. So then I ended up just throwing it on the seat most of the time. I like my other car has a place where you can do wireless charging.

yes, unnecessary extra work and doesn’t look clean. Could always get one of those storage holders that go between the seat and the center consul so you don’t drop things in there and put in there.

Mine doesn't have it, but wouldn't the MagSafe optional phone charger underneath the base of the arm rest work for you?
Cheers,

Weird, I posted to this thread yesterday and it's gone. I had asked if that is a magnetic mount and what brand?

Like I said, I don’t really like using the armrest area for the phone. I’d like being able to see it. But it is definitely an option.

I am assuming you’re asking the above poster who posted his picture of the vent mount phone holder.

I really don't care for mounts that attach to air duct vents. If you've ever seen those vents taken apart intentionally (or not) you'd be very careful just opening and closing them as designed. To the previous poster about the ease and low cost of replacing the console piano black plastic . . . . don't wait until later to buy that piece and set it aside somewhere. That's just the sort of part that can get hard to find, even more so if the price is reasonable, after the vehicle(s) it's used on get changed in some way. Bear in mind that a quick and easy way to restore a 992 interior in the near future, will be to replace these piano black plastic pieces just before you put the up for sale.
Anyhow, I have had for several years now and like the attached. It can also be installed and removed without marking or changing any part of the interior in any way.
.

ProClip Holder with aftermarket magnet.

In the event I need or want to charge it . . . . there's always the traditional method.

I struggled with location, I decided I do need the cup holder.... so I decided on keep it simple... mount it on the rail.. it is flat surface...simple and easy,
I double side tape the flat USB C cable to the 12v plug... it is not too bad...

from the driver size view

charger cable double side taped
