Default Copart 992 TTS

Sitting on waitlists for a 992 TT/TTS for a while, I've been scouring used car sites for good deals on used models in the circumstance that I don't ever get an allocation for a non-hybrid 992 Turbo.

Along with the usual cars.com/autotrader.com options I've been reviewing, I decided to start monitoring Copart for potential deals. I have a friend who's really good with restoring cars who told me he could help if I ever get a project car in the future.

Most of the 911s on Copart are not very appealing right now, but I found this one Adventurine Green 2022 TTS (It's actually a TTS despite being listed as a "Turbo") recently that popped up that *seems* to have some fixable exterior damage, and *seems* to be otherwise intact, and only has ~6k miles on it, and is heavily optioned out with Exclusiv Manafaktur Leather, Sports Design package, Burmester, etc:

https://www.copart.com/lot/37028504/...a-south-boston

I called the lot and it is weeks away from auction. I was thinking of driving up to Boston when it becomes available to be viewed, and potentially bidding on it. Like I said, I have a good friend who's fully restored several classic cars who is no stranger to body work and engine rehauls and that sort of thing, so I'm not going into this blind, but I was curious what the Rennlist community thinks about this particular car as a potential "project" fixer-upper, and at what price point would it be worthwhile? Despite the "$80.00" bid, when you view the listing with a member account, it claims that someone has already bid $63k on the car. Would it be worth it for $80k? $100k?

My experience with auctions, THEY SUCK. People pay crazy amounts of these beat up and damaged cars with salvage titles. I have never seen something go for a good deal.

Id love to find a Turbo engine, ill creep around on there, I wanted to build an engine with upgraded rods.

What you mean by good deal? Are you trying to drive it for a year or two and break even after the sweat equity? Flip it and turn a profit? How much are paying your friend? Do you or he have a source for parts at wholesale?

Your friend probably would be a better guage, as most of us here don't have the slightest clue with this sort of thing...maybe someone experience with an accident?

But plenty or people have done this. Mat Armstrong comes to mind. GL. Keep us posted. This would be very interesting.

I have watched a lot of rebuilds on YouTube. I am by no means an expert, but it always seems that by the time they get done spending all the money on parts, they’re not that far away from a used car that is not been totaled. So, in my opinion, it is not worth it. And then that does not even take into account that these people do not factor in their time and effort.
These cars are worth a lot less if they have been in an accident. If they have been totaled, they are almost impossible to sell.
just go buy a used 911 turbo S with a clean history. You’ll be far happier in the future.

You're likely better to buy the wreck and part it out. The parts can be worth $$$.

It'll go for more than you think, likely for export. If there is frame damage + salvage title, makes it tough for re-sale. If no frame damage, then you *might* be OK. That being said, parts will be difficult to come by and might make a re-build cost prohibitive.

You can go on Youtube and Mat Armstrong (which was mentioned in a repy above) has a long video of a 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 that he bought at Copart in Miami for $140,000 and he rebuilt it. The big issues were the cost of the parts and the fact the airbags had deployed, but he was able to do it for a fairly decent price. Here is a link to the video:

- I just want a 992 TT/TTS to mod and drive around for 10+ years and put 100k+ miles on it, and write off the cost completely and not even worry about resale

- My friend has offered to do all the work (with me, of course) pro bono, or just for beer

- We would probably buy parts from Porsche directly or go with some wholesaler online

If you are going to keep it for literally 10+ years and drive the pants off of it, it might make sense for you.
The salvage title will always be a problem.

That's a friend!

I have no idea...this is totally out of my a** but I'd be estatic with getting this done at 50% of sticker. Like I said I have no idea. $80k for car. $50k in parts. 🤷‍♂️ You're saving a huge amount with free labor.

I would consider buying it, selling the interior and making it into an absolute track beast

The only times that I have considered buying a salvage title car were Honda and Toyotas for my dad so his daily driver. I just bought him a 2017 Honda Accord LX with 50k miles for $11k, car looked fine and drove fine. My dad's other car had a salvage title that I bought for $10k about 5 years ago and that car is going strong. I would not touch a higher end car like a Porsche with a salvage title.

Just wondering, why not? Anything aside from problems reselling with the salvage title? (Which wouldn't be an issue for me)
