992 TTS break-in period
Hey folks,
I was wondering what’s the actual truth with the 992s if they are broken in from factory or it’s better to follow the safety guidelines from Porsche to keep it under 4k RPM till 2k miles. I personally will barely put 2k miles on it atleast a year from now so please help me out here. And what’s the worst that can happen if I drive it like I stole it from the day it gets delivered. I’ve seen YouTubers like AdamLZ do many launch controls right out of the dealership. Let me know.

All the engines are run on an engine dyno at the factory to ensure they produce 100-103% of rated HP IIRC. I was told this in person during my factory tours in 2006 and in 2022. With that in mind use some common sense like letting the fluids come up to temp before spirited driving. I picked up my Euro Delivery car with 12 miles on the ODO (0.5 of that was in Europe but that's another story...). I picked up my car stateside from Fresno, CA and immediately drove 1900 miles to Texas at brisk speeds but no LC and no burying the throttle and no kissing the redline. Once back in TX I did a break-in oil change which is no longer recommended by Porsche. My car consumed less that 1/4 of a quart from the transcontinental journey, and that's only if it were 100% full from the factory.

I don’t think they run all engines. They said on our factory tour this spring that a small percent of engines are ran and even some cars are randomly pulled off the line and ran around for testing.
I want to say around 2-5 % but I can’t recall exactly.
I would not drive the **** out of it instantly. I don’t drive it easy but I don’t smack it off redline either. Lots of throttle variations, load and engine braking with down shifting into red lights to seat the rings tight.
At the factory when we did ED they said to drive it normalish then open it up after about 800-1000km, for what it’s worth.
It’s your car though do what you want.
Edit, oh yes, I did a 3500km break in oil change, the oil and filter looked mint, we were really surprised how clean everything was!

My delivery specialist this last year was the same Jr delivery specialist I had in 2007 when I picked up a 997.1 GT3 - Tilman Hencke. In 07 he said that every engine was run - perhaps he meant just for the GT3's. This last year he said the TTS engines were run so I assumed he meant ALL but perhaps not?
In addition he said that any engine that either underproduced 100% rated power or overproduced 103(?)% of rated power was torn down and inspected

Dunno about that, we stood in the engine building room and watched them assemble engines. We basically toured the entire factory, everywhere we were allowed, it was just us and the guide as we were the only English speakers there.
He said they pull random engines and cars off the line. The percentages were low and were not the same, low single digits. The engines were ran on an engine dyno and a variety of tests, leak down, etc.
The cars were pulled and ran around the factory or some test area. This would explain why some customers receive their cars with above average miles/km.
Again, this is what our tour guide explained.
I HIGHLY doubt they run every engine, that would be massively time consuming. There is a car exiting the line every 3 minutes.

i'm a believer on what any auto manual says for break-in. in this case, i'm following the image posted above for the most part to 1,865 miles. i am in no way better educated on the engine than porsche engineers nor do i believe any of us here are, unless you are a porsche engineer working on the engine. my .02.

the voodoo for break-in is amusing....

1865 is painful. i ran little over 1k, changed the oil, filter, essential fluid and drove it like i stole it. During the 1k, i followed the manual no redline, vary rpms, etc.
