Default 992.1 allocation available, wait for 992.2?

My dealer offered me a 992.1 Turbo S allocation and would be ready for European delivery by February or March. I am considering telling him to defer until the 992.2 since I am in no big rush. Anybody have any advice or opinion on what they would do?

If I did go through with this 992.1 allocation and wanted to trade in for a 992.2 I feel like I would lose quite a bit of money which is why I'm leaning towards just waiting for the 992.2.

Thanks

How is this a serious question?

Are you really willing to give up a guaranteed 992.1 TTS with ED (!) in exchange to waiting probably another 18-24 months for a 992.2 TTS allocation? Assuming you are even guaranteed a 992.2 allocation, and assuming there is no incremental price increase (which is simply about as likely as finding a gallon of unicorn tears in your refrigerator right now).

If they release the 992.2 as a 2025 model it will probably be delivered in Q3 2024. They never release the turbo/turbo s in the 1st year so probably Turbo/Turbo S will be a 2026 model delivered in Q3 2025. Are you going to wait that long?

Buy the 992.1 and enjoy it. Live life now.

I was in the same boat. I went ahead with 992.1 Turbo allocation instead of waiting for unknown period for 992.2

plus 992.1 has a nice feature of analog rev counter which most likely not be in the 992.2. It will have the same digital display as Cayenne which is boring

If you are already worried about losing money on a car you don’t even own what are you going to do when prices crash? TT/TTS depreciation was brutal pre Covid and the new trends have spoiled people to where we are talking about not losing money on a car not even delivered let alone driven you could get 992.2 someone crashes into your car insurance repairs car now car is worth 20% less since it’s been in an accident.

Hypotheticals are just that and they mean nothing. Get the car you want today and seize the day because tomorrow is never guaranteed.

The hybrid Turbo may break the rule here and be unveiled along with 992.2 base carrera. So I dont think the Turbo S replacement will be a MY2026 car. Now, would US get it at the same time EU does? Not sure. There could be a few months of gap.

If 992.2 becomes a MY2025 car (which the earliest would be), it will go into production in September 2024. US deliveries will start December 2024.

if you got an allocation “now”, earliest you see a car is December 2023. So we are talking about 1 year.

Knowing Turbo S crowd, the older car does not stay current/keep its value. The market already is flooded with TTS used cars and in a year, there will be 2-2.5X inventory.

Point being, you get a car now, in a year, there will be another much faster much better handling much better X and much better Y car in youtube. You might be playing an expensive game.

OR

You get the car now. Put 5,000 miles on it in a year. Trade it in towards 992.2 at a 20% loss but of that 7-8% you recover due to tax credit.

The only options that make sense are to buy the 992.1 or don't buy either the 992.1 or 992.2. Waiting for the 992.2 doesn't make sense.

And in option B, most importantly IMO you get to enjoy the car for a year - life is short, yolo. Make/earn up that "loss" somewhere else if that matters.

I also have a feeling, this hybrid Turbo S wont be as tune-able. I dont think the electric motors will hold up at higher power levels.

im an advocate of living life now. a lot can happen between now and an unknown of the 992.2. can always trade in the 992.1 when it becomes more clear of what the .2 will be. trade-ins still command a strong value but remains to be seen if that will be the case years from now so there's that.
