Question 992 Turbo S Air Filter Change??

Hi there,

Just picked up a 2021 992 Turbo S. I was repairing a flat and had the wheel off and thought I would install some new air filters. So I opened up all the wheel well area to get access to the air filter, but could not find a way to remove the turbo vent air line in order to get access to the air filter housing. The hip air duct blocks my abilty to unscrew the air filter house and change the filter. I spent about 20 mins trying to find a way to get that ducting out without taking off the bumper but could not. Is this possible without taking off the bumper. If so and someone has a video or info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hugh

I believe the duct snaps on and off or there is a pin/tab that holds it on. I can’t remember now… no bumper removal is needed.

Clean out the pre filter, it will be full of rocks.

Of course, more flow with BMC and turbo inlets. Plus the turbo noise is so so great.

you do not remove bumper. It is done in each wheel well only.

I wouldn't reuse those BMC filters either. Id trash them every season and put new in... For the cost and the cost of the car... Cheap insurance.

Tons of rocks in the intake if you drive in an area that has winter/rock chip usage. Need to clean the prefilter every oil change too.

If you're in there, get the DO88 turbo inlets, they are much larger and tons of turbo noise with these both combined.

I just did this procedure. My summary:

1)jack up rear end and remove rear wheels
2)remove rear wheel liner using T27, T25, and 10mm bits
3)remove rear intake tube using T20 bit and release lower tab
4)shake out all the pebbles and debris from the intake tube - it has a cartridge for the rock screen but mine did not have one and my tech friend says US models don't come with the screen
5)T27 bit to remove the two stay screws for the air filter cartridge and release 2 tabs to allow it to slide out
6)swap paper filter for BMC filter - my paper filters were filthy at 9k miles
7)reassemble

Wow!!! Your filter was that dirty on both sides! Jesus.

I have a screen and I’m Canadian if that is a different spec?? Get the pre screen, that’s absolutely mind boggling that they don’t have the screens.

How many miles on the filters?

Dude, those are pretty dirty!

Edit, you should pull the turbo inlet off and check the compressor blades, are they sharp still or marred and pitted?

id like to hear more about the inlets and more turbo sounds that come with swapping these and filters.
is it a big difference?

I have only 9k miles on the car. We don't have much of a winter here in Houston that was all from mainly highway driving. I did not pull off the turbo inlets to examine the compressor blades but have no reason to suspect FOD. The interesting thing about the rear intake duct is that it is designed not only for the pre-screen cartridge but also has a trap at the bottom of the lowest curve of the tube that is a debris trap which I believe is intended to collect the pebbles. There is a round rubber grommet at the bottom of this trap which I believe can be removed to routinely suck out the particles.
