These cars and watches used to mean something. People that could afford them not only had to have certain amount of wealth but usually family and social values, a level of education, etc came with it (because it used to be that you couldnt generate wealth that easily without those core values being mastered at first).

Cheap money. Now everyone can get them. And no (social/academical) development required.
