Default Educator Buying $200k

I’m an Educator and an example of a buyer who does NOT have much in the bank but can buy $200k car. I’m 27 yrs in elementary education and retiring in 5 yrs. I bought a 2018 R8 plus 5 yrs ago, I’ve owned 4S new, 2010 458 in 2012 and some Lotus’s.

Stable job, amazing pension and good 403b coming at retirement… I hit the track with my five as part of fun Audi events and have a 3yr old child (correct… having child in late 40’s

At what level of financial freedom do you all feel comfortable buying a car at this price point?
We’re the same age and this mindset shows maturity!
There’s a lot of things I want and can afford but my brain will pump the brakes and say wait it’s not worth it, seems like yours is too.

Orrrrrr in reality your not financially ready and there’s bigger goals you want to accomplish with the $. I can tell you I never messed with expensive cars until I had my assets and liabilities on lock.

Good luck

IMO why dump cash on this? Although with rates rising, maybe a more difficult question. Would rather invest the cash.
Not having read this thread yet, I can only imagine the term "NET WORTH" is being used. This term is a Hall of Fame Rennlist term. It may actually supplant F-chat.
I'd say some mixture of your investments / security / job health / trust fund / wife badgering you / what the kids need (if any).

Only date someone who has money. Don’t waste time with someone who has nothing.

A little different view to consider.

First off I will say that DO NOT expect the current car market situation to continue. Many sectors of autos are already weakening dramatically and it is only a matter of time for it to hit Porsche as well. When it does hit, likely to be pretty savage.

Now on to the question of when you should pull the trigger. Can you pay cash without spending 90% of your savings? One thing that most people don't consider in this situation is that you are creating an asset by purchasing the car with no liabilities associated beyond insurance and registration. Are you comfortable losing 30-40% of things go pear shaped for you financially? Just another way to think about it, but every situation is personal so do what feels right for you and your family.

I call BS.

No one makes it to these earmarks and asks if they can afford a $200k toy.

How volatile is your work and how big is your mortgage?

Are you a short seller that did well this year?

I scanned your previous posts and it seems you have been asking this questions for years. My advice (assuming you're not trolling), it doesn't sound like you're ready mentally... when you are ready, you will know.

25 is the new 10. You can likely get in and out without too much risk. If you feel ok with a potential $50k hit, do it.

I would feel comfortable when no debt including all real estate mortgages paid off in full and no other outstanding debts. Thats it.

Or...find an older lover to address the inheritance situation.
