Default Shark Fin?

Chatting with my dealer about my incoming car and what here recommends for PPF. He is stating that there is no need for PPF on the rear fenders as there is a clear shark fin shape section of factory installed PPF on the leading faces of the rear fenders. I am not talking about the dark rock protectors that are dealer installed.
I was not aware that this was a thing.

Can anyone confirm that this is correct?

Thanks

I disagree, these cars throw rocks down the sides, and without wrapping everything from the front wheels back you will have rock chips on the doors and rear fenders, the side air intakes are places where rocks collect, for real. I have 100% wrapped every car I have owned for 15 plus years, maybe you live where the roads are much better than mine, I need the added protection because of all the road debris

i pass on the GrandMa sofa covers....but people are correct in that the vulnerable areas get pummeled - even my hood is a Dr Color Chip advertisement - some say PPF for life....i say "nahh"

Ditto - yes the areas in front of the rear wheels are a bit in harms way - but the factory "PPF" there gets injured quite easily and it's pretty tough. Problem is with any sort of PPF you can't repair or touch it up - just stuck with it or have to replace it. If you try and touch it up, it just looks horrible. All of my past 911s looked the worst in these PPF areas - while the rest of the car without PPF always looked near showroom new with time taken for minor touch ups. There's no way I'd "double up" PPF in any area - that to me is just silly.

To those that do their own detailing and touch ups - this is by far the best system IMO I've come across - https://chipex.com/ - and I've tried just about every one of them. Whenever I trade in a car to the two local dealers I work with - they always comment on the condition and are ready for sale right then with no detailing necessary.

Protect your Porsche the best way you are comfortable with

I see that chipex has (almost) the same process as dr color chip, which is almost too easy

I cant imagine not putting PPF on my cars. If you don’t should reconsider. New films are amazing. Self healing and don’t yellow. Then do ceramics over top of film
I full wrap my Ferrari and 911s. Looks amazing. Can’t tell you how many times it has saved me on the highway. Helps with resale. Been there done that many times

You inevitability get some road rash. Dr. Colorchip was what I used on my two Caymans. Porsche paint is notoriously soft/light.

But I have learned…my TTS is going to have full body PPF.

Based on my own 10k-mile/4-season experience in the Northeast U.S. with my ‘21 992TTS, your dealer’s advice is very poor or assumes extremely different driving conditions than what I typically experience and expect.. The factory PPF on the rear fenders provides only very basic and limited protection and leaves large, prominent parts of the rear fenders exposed.

This area gets absolutely hammered. Worse than any car I've ever had. I put film on the fender AND the factory piece over it. At 2k miles the factory piece has large holes in it already.

If you order any of the high gloss black bits (intake) you will eventually get chipping. As others have said, the rear fender areas take a beating. I wouldn't consider putting my car on the road without additional PPF protection but to each their own.
